South Street Brewery was purchased in 2014 by Blue Mountain Brewery, whose owners have a deep connection with this storied brewing establishment. Two of Blue
Mountain’s founders—Mandi and Taylor Smack—both worked for South Street over a decade ago, Taylor having been the brewer from late 2001 until early 2007. Our company is
committed to maintaining and revitalizing this important Charlottesville

landmark and gathering place. We hope you enjoy our expanded beer offerings, including venerated South Street originals that helped shape the Central Virginia beer scene, as well as new beers reflecting the diversity and experimentation that is the heart of American craft brewing. Our new food offerings lean heavily toward local
artisans—from beef to bread, from tofu to produce and everything in between—reflecting our belief that Charlottesville, Virginia is the best place on Earth to live, drink and eat!

28 years. It’s hard to put into words what this journey has meant to us. What started as a dream became a community, and those connections grew far beyond these four walls.

Today is our final day. We will miss each and every one of you who made this house a home. Join us for one last pour and a final cheers to the memories.

South Street Brewery will be open for one final day on Monday, April 6th for the NCAA Championship.
We know we’re not usually open on Mondays, but we’re opening at 4 PM so we can go out with a bang.

Come raise a glass with us, toast your friends, celebrate our incredible staff, and help us close out 28 years of craft beverages, great food, and unforgettable memories.

We’re so excited to host Colby’s Crew Rescue today from 12–4 PM! 🐴💛

This incredible rescue is dedicated to saving horses from slaughter and giving them a second chance at safe, loving homes. We’re grateful for the amazing work they do and proud to support their mission.

Come by to support a great cause, meet some beautiful horses, enjoy a cold beer, and spend the afternoon with us at the brewery.

A Final Toast to South Street Brewery
To our incredible community: we want to start by saying thank you. To our loyal Mug Club members, our rowdy and dedicated Bills fans, and every single person who chose to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or "just because" moment with us—you are the heartbeat of this brewery.
To every South Street patron from the last 28 years: it has been an honor to be your local gathering place.We would like to invite everyone to stop by over the next month to share a story and enjoy a final drink with us. Our last day of operation will be Monday, April 6th, as we close out this chapter with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game.
The ownership of Blue Mountain Brewery has been the steward of this storied Charlottesville location for the last 12 years. However, the credit for the amazing atmosphere South Street Brewery provides goes entirely to our General Manager, Allison Rowell, our Chef, Alex Cooke, and their dedicated staff. Because of their hard work, the brewery has never been more welcoming, well-run, or energetic than it is today.
As Blue Mountain Brewery approaches 20 years and our Barrel House production facility nears 15, we have decided to focus our energy on our Nelson County roots. We are now looking for the next ambitious restaurateur or brewery to take the reins and lead South Street into its next era.
Thank you all so much for your patronage and for being a part of our dream in Charlottesville. We hope to see you one last time before April 6th!

Get ready to clear the way for a literal legend. This Saturday, we’re dropping Big John's 20 Hands Lager, and we’re doing it in the biggest way possible!

We are beyond thrilled to host our friends from Colby’s Crew Rescue. They aren't coming empty-handed (or empty-hoofed)—they’re bringing the man of the hour, Big John, along with a few other fury friends from Colby's Crew!
