Dear valued customers and friends,

After much thought and reflection, Tim and I have made the bittersweet decision to close Summers and embrace the next chapter in our lives. It’s a decision that comes with mixed emotions, but we believe it’s time for us to move on.

To our loyal customers and to everyone who walked through our doors, shared your stories or simply offered a warm smile, thank you for turning our dreams into a reality. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible nine seasons we've shared with all of you. We appreciate your support and friendships.

To my wonderful team, words can’t express how much you mean to me. Your dedication and passion were the heartbeat of this place. You were the heart and soul of Summers. I couldn’t have asked for more incredible group of people to share this ride with. I love you all!

While we may be closing our doors for the rest of the season and selling Summers, the connections we’ve made will last a lifetime. I hope the next chapter brings someone new who will continue to keep the spirit of fun and community alive on the river.

Thank you all for your unwavering support! We will forever cherish the memories and friendships made here.

Wishing all the best, and here’s to new adventures ahead!

With love,
Tim & Crystal Summers

I’ve had so many people ask if we’re open for the holiday weekend, and sadly, we still haven’t received our permit to start any of the necessary work for our opening. We’re still working through all the red tape, and I wish I could explain why it’s taking so long, but I really can’t. I’m so sorry to our favorite customers—we really miss all of you! We hope everyone has a safe and fun Fourth weekend!

Wednesday!

Just wanted to update you on our situation for Summers since the flood. Right now, we're a bit lost on which direction to take. We haven’t received clear answers from any government officials. The county & FEMA is saying over 50% of our building is damaged and we need to submit damage, repairs, cost of all repairs to the county and then to IDNR. In 2018 none of this was required. I have never had to deal with DNR so I can’t even begin to imagine the permits and hoops we will have to jump through.
Right now, I'm hoping the appraisal we had done a little over a week ago on our building comes back higher than what the county has our appraisal at, so we can try to get the damage under the 50%. We definitely won't be like we were before this season, but if we can get the outside bar running in the next month or two and have food trucks (if that’s allowed), then that's the plan — just to give our community some sense of normalcy. These challenges aren't just hitting our business; they’re affecting everyone in our little river family at Bushman’s & Rivers Edge. This is our business, not our home, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for our community to get the answers we really need to move forward and get back to living our lives.

Side note- I don’t see how they come up with percentage on damage. Clearly, we do not see 50% of damage. Our structure itself was not damaged. Do things need to be replaced and cleaned up- sure but that is expected when living on the river.

Thank you to whoever put a new flag up at Summers. So thoughtful- thank you!

UPDATE- Dock Seafood came thru again! Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

Let’s try this again since we have a little more of a notice.
Hey, do I have a good food truck that would be interested in coming to Bushman’s Lake and setting up near Summers Saturday 4/26?
12-4 or 5pm.??
There will be plenty of folks in our community fixing up their homes after the flooding, and it’d be great for them to have a nearby spot to grab a bite.

I just wanted to say something about my team, our staff! Tim and I really feel for them. They're the ones who stick around every season to help us out, and not being able to give them any info has been rough. Their loyalty really matters, and I want to make sure we recognize that. ♥️

I feel like I haven’t really shared what’s going on with Summers lately. We met with our FEMA adjuster, and let me tell you, there’s a ton of paperwork and a bunch of hoops to jump through! Honestly, I don’t remember it being this way after the 2018 flood, at least from what I can recall. Right now, I have no clue how long any of this will take. We need to rebuild our bar, maybe replace the flooring, doors, a few garage doors, get some new kitchen equipment, put in a new septic system, get a new AC, and handle plumbing and electrical stuff. And then there’s all the cleaning—so much cleaning! AND, not to mention the mud—seriously, I never want to deal with mud again! I’ll keep you all posted as things start moving, but for now, we're just focusing on what we can do.

Hey bands we’ve got lined up for May! I know you're curious about whether we’ll be up and running by then. To be honest, I can't say for sure until we can check out the damage. I’m guessing it’ll be closer to late May or early June, so I’m going to go ahead and cancel the bands now. This way, you all have time to book elsewhere instead of waiting until the last minute.
