Hard to believe it’s been 3 months to the day since I temporarily and voluntarily (that’s right, Hanna Raskin, TEMPORARILY AND VOLUNTARILY) closed the doors to The Barrel. I’d venture to say that every day within those 3 months I’ve had at least one person reach out to me to ask how they can help. Which I have greatly appreciated, but have never had an answer to give. Well today I have an answer. If you live in the City of Charleston you can help by voting for CAROLINE PARKER for City Council today. Caroline is a longtime James Islander who wants what’s best for James Island and will do what she can, if elected, to assist in the re-opening of The Barrel. Carol Jackson is your current District 12 representative who is responsible for the temporary closure of your and your pups’ favorite James Island bar. She sits on the Traffic and Transportation committee and is responsible for the 17 No Parking signs that were put up around The Barrel about a year ago. She made no effort that I am aware of to reach out to me, one of her constituents, for a solution to the parking situation prior to making this unilateral move. If that’s the type of person you want making decisions for our amazing island community then, by all means, vote for her. But if you want someone who will be fair and listen to all of her constituents then please go vote for CAROLINE PARKER today!

Moooon Riverrrr! So I know it feels to everyone like we’re being fi**ed, much like Irwin M. Fletcher AKA Mr. Babar, but this isn’t the City’s fault. A whistle got blown by a neighborhood full of Karens and, coincidentally, Chads, and they were forced to act. But I can assure you that this Chad is on top of it! I’m meeting with Zoning on Wednesday mornin, and hope to have an update for everyone by early Wednesday afternoon. I have a plan that could have us back up n runnin by this weekend. Lookin forward to seein all of y’all on Friday!

Well folks. I don’t know if I should say I’m happy or sad to announce this. But today The Barrel turned 7!! Sucks we can’t celebrate with y’all and your pups at the bar whilst sipping on delicious beers, but life happens. As the great Walter Sobchak said, “This is not ‘Nam. There are rules!” Rules that I thought I was following, but I reckon this damn plague has gotten everyone all butt hurt and irritated and wanting to shut good people down. Anyway, I personally would like to thank all of y’all for making The Barrel what it’s been all these years. Y’all are the reason we made it this long! And I’m sorry, Dwight, but you got it wrong on this one bud. The Barrel will be born again! And y’all know me…once I get this all sorted, it will be even better than before!! Oh and also, I cannot thank y’all enough for all of the kind words of support and offers to help on my last post. I actually got some good contacts from said comments on my post, and am working with them now to resolve this unpleasantness as quickly as possible. Y’all will be the first to know when we are back up and running!

Alright, alright, not alright. The Barrel will be closed today through Wednesday at least. Likely longer. You can thank one of your elected officials for this. Also the Beefield Neighborhood. Also one of our City prosecutors. I offered a solution to the parking situation as soon as I hit the podium. The judge, the prosecutor, nor the Beefield folks seemed too interested in my solution. Or any solution, for that matter. It was quite clear that the neighborhood simply wants The Barrel gone for good. Whatever it takes. But rest assured, I’m on top of it! Apologies for the inconvenience. I need a drink!!
