Today, I write with a heavy heart that on July 6th we lost one of our own. God puts people in our lives that will forever change us, and that bring us joy and happiness. Noi was not only our coworker, but part of our family and one of those people that forever changed us. She was a tiny little woman, but she had one of the biggest hearts. I enjoyed our talks about Thailand and trying to get her to teach me cuss words in Thai. I swear the only reason she worked as long as she did was because she needed to fuel her grocery shopping addiction, and she always knew who had the best deals! We all loved her very much, we had some very special moments over the years. Me scaring her with firecrackers in the kitchen, and her cussing me..then us all laughing ! Noi had a passion for cooking and was one of the best I've ever seen. I learned so much from her over the years in that OP kitchen. Still trying to get my shrimp and corn soup to taste like hers! She loved sharing her passion for cooking with her colleagues, like her outside the our place menu favorites shrimp fried rice, cabbage rolls or my favorite chocolate chip cookies (she would usually bring me my very own bag). Noi could work circles around kids a quarter of her age that included me! We are going to miss that kind-hearted, four foot two tall, feisty, cussing, hard working women! We would like offer prayers for the Coyle family. Services will be this Friday July 13, 2018 at the Seale funeral home in Central visitation 12-2pm and service to follow at 2pm. REST IN PEACE MY NOI NOI

It is very hard to see how much has changed in a years time. Over grown bushes, abandoned building a since of emptiness. "Our place" once thrived so much.. great food, music, smiles, memories and a landmark of this Central Community!! It was really hard to walk around and reflect on the past year. I have to believe God has a better plan! I was thankful last year for what the flood hadn't taken from me... what an emotional roller coaster ride this last year has been though. I have created new routines new friends, but still thinking to myself where is this journey suppose to take me? I spend my days now "Down on Colton's Corner Bistro." I still pray for the recovery of our community. I spend my one day a week off exerting my anger for the flood trying to help get my mother-in-law's house livable a year later, and I pray for the people still fighting for a since of what should be normal.

Lastly would like to say keep looking over us to our "Op angels" Alyssa Chavers, Snake USA, Bubba Cline, and Pops aka Mr. Randy Newton we are thankful for y'all touching "our lives" rest in peace until we meet again! Jayme

I'll share a tribute. Fourteen years ago today we lost a woman, who if weren't for Our Place Restaurant we might have never have known. Samatha Ann Wilson "Sam", was a woman who never met a stranger. She was kind hearted and would give to anyone in need. She was strong, tuff and spoke her mind openly at times. She was a part of our OP family we speak of. She was a best friend to my mom. I can still hear the laughter from the Saturday morning coffee talks. She had a laugh that no one could ever forget. She loved hummingbirds, and every time we see a hummingbird we feel her near. It seems when times are hard those hummingbirds appear more frequently. I know if she were here she would be right here with us. She is the reason Tommye Gay is "Sister" to us because she is our sister too. The business was never just a business it was a destination to meet people that would forever change our lives, and hearts. We will always hold our "OP family" close to our hearts along with twenty-two years of memories we share. We know you are in a better place, and we love you "Sam".

Our Place Restaurant is the oldest running restaurant in Central, La. In 1994 my parents purchased the restaurant from the wonderful Silvios brothers, which I know are looking over us today. My parents took a risk on a business, with no prior experience in the food service industry. This place was our second home, livelihood, where we went to work day in and day out. Yes, there were times when we complained about our work, but at the end of the day it was our life. Starting on Friday morning August 12, 2016 our lives changed forever. We canceled work only expecting some heavy rain to subside enough for us to return on Saturday. Unfortunately, everything change that day. Within hours three foot of water entered the building Friday afternoon, and by Saturday morning it was halfway up the building. Saturday afternoon it was to the roof, just disbelief that everything we worked so hard to have paid for was all gone in 24 hours. Never has this building ever flooded, the building is over 50 years old. Looking back I'm thankful for the things the flood did not take from us. The opportunity to meet my wonderful husband and in which we have a beautiful son. The ability to graduate from LSU. The wonderful people I have had the best time of my life working with over the years. Our customers and OP family that we saw everyday. Our cadillac card playing afternoons, our stressful Friday nights, our talks while we rolled silverware at the end of the night, and our tears after making it through another stressful Saturday night. The reality of everything is setting in, how do we pick up the pieces now. The building is a total loss, much of the equipment as well, and a long with all the food. Honestly there is nothing left but the shell of a building and some land. Many have reached out and express their sympathy, and words of encouragement "build bigger and better than ever before." Some people have even asked if we plan on rebuilding, it is still to early determine our future. We believe our insurance company is going to deny anything and everything, explaining we should have had flood insurance. We know that with a new building we can come back stronger than ever before, and we still intend on doing that. The situation is so overwhelming, everyone has lost something or knows someone who has lost everything. Our city looks like a third world country, in need of assistance from our government. We are a strong and resilient community. We will continue to pray for our community and the surrounding areas. The flood did not take our hearts and our hearts will carry us through this tragedy.

We have put our sweat, tears and heart into this place we call Our Place, tomorrow will be no different. We will try to keep everyone updated as we assess the damages once the water recedes.
