The Lone Wolf Club

The Lone Wolf Club An historic speakeasy turned western theme bar/dance hall

The Lone Wolf Club in Castlewood, Missouri was a Speakeasy and Tavern in the 1930's and was built and owned by Eddie Pahl who lived in a house behind the bar till his death in 1979. The prominent Stone Entryway and smoker along with a patio and forbidding entrance to the bar were build during the era of bootlegging prohibition and mobsters. In the early 1980's, under Steve Apted's ownership, it be

came a legendary-post Urban Cowboy- western nightclub with packed crowds and even a mechanical bull on the patio. The Lone Wolf Band played from a small bandstand in front of the dance floor, while saucy leggy servers brought drinks and ribs from the 8 hour smoker. Kay Thompson ran a full sized horse drawn stagecoach between the Lone Wolf and the Ponderosa bar located at the north end of Castlewood. Kay became the last proprietor of the Lone Wolf Club, introduced free western dance lessons with the help of Bill Webster who, along with the Lone Wolf Band, helped swell the crowds one last time before it's sad demise by the early 1990's.

Ran into Fred, who lead the Lone Wolf Band in the early 80's, at a Quebe Sisters Show recently. His last gig at Stovall's Grove was recently (Fred and the Rangers). He is now retired from music he told me, but sounds just the same as he did in the 80's.

A great memory was the BBQ Ribs smoked for 8 hours in the smoker across from the entrance. Especially all-you-can-eat nights! Best ribs ever tasted. The Lone Wolf was also a restaurant with a limited menu but it was the two bars, live bands and dancing that brought most people in.

As we remember....When Morgantown was playing other gigs there was "The Lone Wolf Band". Does anyone remember Fred and Johnny Lee? For a while they had a beautiful singer, Terri. Fred had a band playing at Stovall's Grove last
heard?

Recalling another characters that would frequent the place. Big John..he rode a Fatboy and parked by the front door. He was from the 60's-70's era Harley biker/mechanic..Nicest guy you'd want to know, though his appearance at about 6'5 with long beard said otherwise.

Welcome Kat and Robbie! Part of the history of this club included regular appearances in the 80's by the popular band Morgantown! Kat and Dave brought great country music for dancing with classic songs and original music. And Robbie ran the sound mix board and special effects.
