Before the wine. Before the tasting room. Before Big Sur Vineyards.

There was the ocean.

I spent years as an underwater documentary filmmaker diving with some of the most magnificent creatures on the planet. This photo was taken by the legendary cinematographer Howard Hall — he gave me this print as a gift and it has hung in our tasting room since the day we opened.
That tiny diver next to the whale shark? That is me. 🌊
To everyone who ever dove into the unknown alongside me — thank you.

You made me wild by nature. And that wildness is in every bottle of BSV wine. 🍷



And a heartfelt congratulation to fellow Carmel Valley documentary filmmaker Conall Jones — whose film All the Empty Rooms just won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film. Well done Conall. This valley is proud of you. 🎬
