A new book celebrating the legacy of late SIU alumnus and U.S. Navy SEAL veteran William “Will” Bushelle is shining a light on the impact of leadership, service and mentorship through SIU’s Leadership Development Program (LDP).

“Work Ready,” co-authored by LDP Director and engineering professor Bruce DeRuntz, is an Amazon best-seller that explores how Will helped transform the program through lessons from his military service.

Since 2006, LDP has supported students in the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics through hands-on leadership training, mentorship and service opportunities. The program has achieved a 100% graduation rate and a 96% career placement rate, with graduates going on to careers as engineers, researchers, pilots, doctors and military leaders.

All net proceeds support the Will Bushelle Scholarship through the SIU Foundation, benefiting engineering students who are active-duty military/reserve, veteran or active ROTC.

Join us for a public book signing featuring Will’s parents, Bruce DeRuntz, and co-author Shannon Barrett on Saturday, May 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. at TRAXX in Carbondale, where Will worked during his time at SIU.
