With its subterranean location, sensuous red lighting, and welcoming staff, Lizard Lounge brings such a unique vibe to performances that Rolling Stone Magazine hailed, “Lizard Lounge is where it’s at – intimate, eclectic hot spot.”

Lizard Lounge features live performances seven nights a week (cover varies), ranging from the area’s hottest local bands to touring national acts. In addition to rock

and roots, you might also find opera, classical music or Balkan folk music dotting the Lounge’s diverse calendar. As ongoing series, every Monday night features The Lizard Lounge Open Mic Challenge hosted by Tom Bianchi, and every Sunday night, The Jeff Robinson Trio hosts the legendary Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam and Slam (14 years running!). In addition, the world renown groove collective Club D’Elf has called Lizard Lounge home for over 13 years and can be seen performing here once or twice a month. VCR (Vernon C. Robinson) is a Dorchester native born and raised in Boston. He has been writing, reciting, and performing poetry/spoken word for nearly 20 years and has performed at several local spots as a feature and participant. He has poetically graced the same stage and opened up for such acts as Dead Prez, S.O.S. Band, Amiri Baraka, Pharoahe Monch, Suheir Hammad, Lakeside, New Birth, Last Poets, Les Nubians, Saul Williams, Jessica Care Moore, Georgia ME, Michel’le, and other well-known artists. In addition to Massachusetts, he has taken his poetry to cities and states such as New York (including the famous Nuyorican Poets Café), Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Cleveland, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and, surprisingly, Cuba, where he met the legendary Assata Shakur. VCR is also the founder and cultural event organizer of BloodSkinLand Productions. From that umbrella, he has created many annual gatherings which include Devotion, Megacipher, InFRESHstructure, Afro-Cinema, Maylennium, Young Gifted & Black, BomBARDed, and the popular ongoing gathering called VerBaLizAtiOn, which is currently the longest-running open mic spot in the Boston area for over 25 years. VCR’s debut CD entitled “Poetic Insanity”, released in 2003. VCR has been nominated for Best Male Spoken Word Artist at the 2006 New England Urban Music Awards, twice for Best Spoken Word Artist at the 2006 & 2007 M.I.C. Hip-Hop Awards, and for Spoken Word Artist of the Year at the 2023 Boston Music Awards.

On his recent LP "Memorial," on Colorfield Records, multi-instrumentalist and composer Rich Hinman creates an arresting collage containing elements of electronica, psychedelia, and searching improvisation, with Hinman's pedal steel as the (mostly) primary voice. Here he debuts a new band of like-minded explorers featuring local heroes Kevin Barry (Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash) on guitar and lap steel, Zachariah Hickman (Josh Ritter, Ray LaMontagne) on acoustic bass and John Sands (Aimee Mann) on drums.

Tarishi "M.I.D.N.I.G.H.T.” Shuler
Award-winning American Artist Tarishi "M.I.D.N.I.G.H.T.” Shuler altered the status quo of the spoken word art scene by presenting an ingenious style of delivery using clever metaphors and a dance between two-dimensional storylines.

Resonating with audiences nationwide, by 2011, Tarishi had begun dominating stages with his dramatic performances, taking home numerous awards year after year and raising the bar for his counterparts. Often abrupt, always gracefully delivered yet playfully unfiltered, his poetry hangs in an intrinsic balance of raw truth and art imitating life.

Among his many accolades, Tarishi has opened for notable individuals such as Saul Williams, Grammy-nominated Neo-Soul Artist Dwele, Abiodun Oyewole of The Last Poets, and former US President Bill Clinton. In 2020, he shared a stage with Omari Hardwick at Da' Poetry Lounge in Los Angeles, California. Def Poetry Jam Reunion in Martha's Vineyard. Tarishi is a member of the CT Slam Team VERBAL SLAP and was instrumental in their win at Southern Fried Poetry Slam. They are the current 2025 National Champions and 2026 Chicharra Poetry Festival Champions. He was the special guest host at the Legendary “Poet’s Passage” Poetry Open Mic in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Former Artistic Director for The Word, a nonprofit organization located in New Haven, CT. A native of Connecticut, you can find Tarishi modeling, acting, bodybuilding, teaching, or directing while also discovering new audiences in stages close to home, and as far as Tokyo, Japan.

Thelma and the Sleaze is an independent all-female, q***r southern rock band from Nashville, Tennessee.
LG is the embodiment of hustle. As the driving force behind Thelma and The Sleaze, she is the songwriter, the visionary, the take-no-sh*t-from-anyone front woman that is single handedly keeping rock and roll alive. Thelma and The Sleaze has been touring the US for years building a legion of fans, affectionally called her creepers. The growing social media presence, the hit podcast, the features with Yamaha Guitars are really all the result of her incredible songwriting, visceral guitar playing, and the guts to deliver on her vision of what Rock and Roll should be. Dub Apocalypse is an instrumental dub reggae band from Boston, MA. Band members are Tommy Benedetti-drums,Van Martin-guitar,Johnny Trama-guitar,Aaron Bellamy-bass,and Timo Shanko-sax/bass. The band came together in 2007, led by drummer Tommy Benedetti and guitarist, Johnny Trama.Tommy Benedetti is one of the founding members of American Reggae Pioneers,John Brown's Body. He brings a wealth of experience from the reggae/dub scene to the table,having recorded albums for the legendary Shanachie Label,John Zorn's Tzadik Label (mixed by Bill Laswell),and is currently with John Brown's Body on Easy Star Records. This history is combined with almost 2 decades of International touring,as well as backing some of the giants of Jamaican music,including The Meditations and Justin Hinds.

Dana Colley is a saxophonist best known for playing the baritone saxophone in the guitarless, low-rock band Morphine. Colley and Mark Sandman met in Boston and formed the band Morphine in 1989. The band's unique setup featured a baritone sax, a 2-string bass, and drums. Morphine released multiple albums, had a hit video on MTV, and toured extensively. Tragically, in 1999, Mark Sandman suffered a heart attack and passed away while performing on stage. In response to this loss, Colley and the remaining members of Morphine formed the 9-piece group known as Orchestra Morphine to promote the band's final posthumous album, titled "Night." Colley went on form other successful groups including Twineman in 2001 with Laurie Sargent, and A.K.A.C.O.D. in 2006 with bassist/songwriter Monique Ortiz. Throughout the years, Colley has collaborated with various artists, including the Alloy Orchestra, Lee Renaldo, Dub Apocalypse, Club D’Elf, and Les Claypool. Colley also continues to perform the music of Morphine, with the band Vapors of Morphine.

John Powhida's newest rock send-up The Powhida Infirmary includes fellow inpatients Mike Gent (The Figgs, Graham Parker) on drums, Rick Cohen (Brian Wilson Band) on keys, and John Sheeran (Township, Nat Freedberg) on bass. A fixture of Boston music since 2000, Powhida is the erstwhile frontman for the beloved Rudds and the one-time pilot of the John Powhida Airport International. The Albany native has garnered several Boston Music Awards, won the WBCN Rock ‘n Roll Rumble in 2011, and has performed with Graham Parker, Peter Wolf, Todd Rundgren, and the Nazz. The Infirmary is working on their forthcoming debut—due in the summer of 2026, it’s a bit of an art-rock fever dream, a little injection of disco-pop, and anything but prescriptive. Whatever ails you, the Infirmary will cure.

The music of Sidewalk Driver is high energy, highly infectious, hook-driven Rock with a capital ‘R.’ The sound is modern, but the heart of the band seems to be more in line with 1970s rock culture… the Bowies and the Belushis of the world. Lead singer Tad McKitterick’s voice has power and clarity, is expressive without falling off the pitch and is forceful without losing subtle moments. Guitarists Kate Murdoch and Jared Egan seamlessly weave crunchy rhythms with soaring solos, while bassist Jonn Smith and drummer A.J. Locke hold down the bottom end. The songs always come with some odd bent but not one that repels; rather, they welcome you to join in the celebration like a carnival barker hyping a freak show.

Eleanor Buckland made her start as one-third of Lula Wiles, the Boston-based folk-rock trio that became an acoustic music scene favorite with their three critically hailed albums, the most recent two released on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Now living in Durham, NC, the singer songwriter has turned to a new page as a solo artist. Buckland’s debut album You Don’t Have To Know (released October 2021 on Soundly Music) sets her deeply personal songs against inventive indie rock arrangements.

Chessa Rich is a NC-raised musician based in Durham. Her informed rule-breaking songwriting is steeped in a past of musical collaboration and a gentle persistence to discover oneself in community. Rich is a versatile collaborator, performing with Hiss Golden Messenger, Tift Merritt, and Skylar Gudasz as well as recording with producer Nick Sanborn (Sylvan Esso, Made of Oak) and Shane Leonard (Anna Tivel, Mipso). Her full-length debut "Deeper Sleeper" is out now on Carrboro, NC’s Sleepy Cat Records.
