PLAYHOUSE CREATURES:
The Year is 1669. After almost twenty years of Puritan rule that saw the suppression of Theatre, Music, Dancing (and, well…anything fun!) King Charles the II, “The Merry Monarch,” has been restored to the throne. The theaters have reopened, and, thanks to the King, the prohibition against women appearing on stage has been done away with. For the first time in English history, women are now free to “strut and fret their hour upon the stage.” This leads to the rise of the English-speaking world’s first Actresses, who reach a level of stardom never reached by any of their male predecessors. PLAYHOUSE CREATURES offers a funny and moving view into the lives of five of these pioneering Restoration actresses at the forefront of the “Merry Monarch’s” new theatrical revolution. Part History, part raucous Restoration Comedy, part Ode to Women’s Rights, and all parts Love Letter to the Theatre, PLAYHOUSE CREATURES is a comic account full of humor and heart that will provoke plenty of thought and discussion while making you laugh out loud.

Jason Tardy is a multifaceted performer who uses his strength (he juggles three 10lb bowling balls), intelligence (skipped a year of high school and was valedictorian), endurance (two-time 100 mile ultramarathon finisher), and skill (he has no social life so he practices a lot) to create a crazy high-energy, comedy and juggling show like you’ve never seen before…unless you’ve seen him before. She'll fill you in on how she got started, what keeps her coming back year after year and how she's feeling about that old question of retirement. Down to the A&P, there are lots of laughs, of course, and more drama and intrigue than you'd think. Heck, as the only supermarket in Mahoosuc Mills, everyone passes through, eccentric locals and wacky tourists alike. And Ida has a front row seat to all of it: the good, the bad and the ugly. Novel Jazz is a group of Maine-based musicians with over two centuries of collective musical experience performing swinging jazz from the Great American Songbook. The year 2026 marks the 22nd anniversary of the Septet. They specifically focus on the great works of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, ranked as two of America’s all-time finest composers (not just within the jazz genre, either!). Using historic recordings, plus regular trips to the Duke Ellington Collection at the Smithsonian Museum as well as the Strayhorn Collection at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., Novel Jazz has collected and arranged selected works from the several-thousand-composition repertoire of these two prolific composers. Concerts include both the music plus the rich history behind each piece... literally the very foundations that made jazz what it is today!
