There’s been a lot of talk about Lazy Harry’s the past few days, so we felt this was a good time to give everyone an update.
For those who may not know the full story our dad, Reggie Dalessandro, bought Lazy Harry’s in 1993. After he passed in 2001, our mom, Loretta, took over. In 2016 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and we cared for her in Las Vegas while continuing to run the bar until her passing in 2024. Around that same time, our family also experienced the heartbreaking loss of Denielle’s daughter, Bristol, at a very young age. These have all been obstacles for us to continue moving forward and have slowed the process down at times as we are no different than you.
During COVID, like many small businesses, we were forced to close due to lack of business and the inability to continue supporting staff. At that point, we began addressing long-standing issues with the building. As many of you know, this is an older structure built before the city was incorporated—with significant electrical, plumbing, and roof concerns.
Once we began repairs, deeper structural issues were uncovered. Because Bullhead City does not have a local structural engineer, we had to bring one in from Las Vegas multiple times. This process has been complex, especially considering there were no original plans or permits on file for the building.
Like many in this community, we balance full-time careers, families, and life responsibilities while also taking on the challenge of restoring a building that has been part of our family for 32 years. We could have sold the property at any time, but that likely would have meant losing Lazy Harry’s altogether. Instead, we chose to invest in preserving it.
We have sold a property and have another for sale as we continue to make sacrifices to fund this project. And like any older building, new challenges continue to come up along the way.
The good news is we have now received our final structural plans and are ready to begin moving forward with those repairs. These are critical steps that must be completed before any other work can continue.
We understand there have been concerns about the exterior of the building. While our priority has been making the structure safe, we also recognize how important the appearance is to the neighborhood and community. We will be addressing that as well as cleaning up the property, trimming the palm trees, removing weeds, and repainting the exterior as we continue interior work. We apologize to our neighbors for not seeing this sooner.
All we ask for is patience and understanding. We are a small, family-run business not a corporation with unlimited resources and this process takes time to do it the right way.
We have always done our best to be transparent, whether through posts here or direct communication, and we will continue to share updates as we move forward.
We truly appreciate those of you who have supported us through all of this. It means more than you know. We are sick of the rumors and negativity from the posts we see about how people want us or the city to tear the building down or hope we fail....No hardworking American families want to hear things like that.
We may not have unlimited resources, but we have determination and we’re not walking away. Lazy Harry’s means everything to our family and a lot to this community, and we’re committed to doing the work and bringing it back the right way.
P.S. The raccoon is a reference to our raccoon family living under lazy harrys who has stuck it out with us through thick and thin...
