The elqouent line drawings of Alien Hair create a new language of movement that are paradoxically zen and meditative, with their bleached palatte and linear simplicity, while also being accessible symbols of whimsy, with their curvaceous hair like flow. They manage to occupy both softness and starkness, a push and pull that is the product of the artist’s methodology.
Vashti’s sculptures make the jump from flat to multi dimensional while occupying a similar aesthetic balance, somewhere between a serene desert and manic jubilance, the mono-chrome works manage to calm while also exciting the viewer.
Perhaps, not unconsciously, Vashti’s works are a manifestation of personal experience and a search for inner calm. She has experienced many lives be it on the road traveling in the circus, performing music across the seas, or living in cities from Atlanta to Brooklyn to Tucson, and now in Los Angelos. In each of these iterations she has dived deeply into the culture, creating spaces and projects that have left a mark on time and friends, but her art is not the psychedelic menagerie one might expect, instead her new works are sophisticated, reflective, even quiet
