“These Reels May Suck for a While” (Lore)
These reels may suck for a while.
The first time I realized I could bring people together was around 2016.
I did an event called Nash Bash.
It was a pop-up speakeasy in a bar in Marathon Village in Nashville.
I had everybody come dressed in 1920s fashion.
Suits. Dresses. Hats.
We had drinks. We had music. People just had a good time.
But what mattered to me was something else.
I made sure people understood the history.
Black Nashville. Black Bottoms. North Nashville.
I wanted people to feel where they were.
I remember looking around the room.
Seeing everybody dressed up. Seeing people laughing. Seeing people in conversation.
And it hit me.
I have something.
Not just throwing an event. Not just bringing people out.
I know how to create a space where people come together and feel something.
Through storytelling. Through history. Through the way the room is held.
And I think that was the first time I understood that fun could look different.
That gathering could mean something.
And from there, I knew… this is something I can build.
