Happy birthday to the one and only james!!! Odds are that if you’ve visited us here at Kato Sake Works, whether you knew our bottle shop on Central or are a taproom regular, you’ve met James. Maybe you’ve chatted about obscure country music or obscure meme culture or obscure sake profiles. (James is an expert at the obscure.)

We have James to thank for our robust jazz and music program as well as all of our taproom events! So much of who we are today is thanks to the hard work of our friend and resident silly goose James.

Stop by this month and give James some birthday love! And while you’re at it, grab a ticket to see James perform with their band at Sleepwalk. Details on slide 2!

We love you James!!!! 🫶🫶🫶

Tokyo Summer 2026 recap!

Shinobu and Maxine had the best time in Tokyo for the last week of August. We had 3 events, one at Dean & Deluca DEAN & DELUCA JAPAN 公式, the second at Maekake by Anything MAEKAKE by Anything co.,ltd., and the third at Watering Hole Watering Hole ウォータリングホール. All three events were filled with laughter, friends reuniting, new customers, and of course, lots of sake! Thank you so so so much to everyone who came and helped us organize these events.

We also had some extra time to visit some old and new friends. We visited Soho House Tokyo, reunited with Kei and met Harna and even saw in the lobby! Maxine reunited with friends over at Swig Tokyo who had connected us 木花之醸造所 konohanano_sake_brewery. We were able to meet some of the brew team as they build out their new space. We got a wonderful tour of 【いづみ橋】泉橋酒造 Izumibashi sake brewery from Tereda-san and Hashiba-san joined us for an unforgettable dinner where we got to try so many of their sake! Thank you everyone!

We also got to spend some time in Koenji, Shinobu’s hometown, where we saw awaodori, an annual festival, and Shinobu’s mom! (little sneak peek for a future infusion). Maxine got to see her family and friends and do a lot of shopping (they even spotted Takuya Kuroda on display at Tower Records).

This trip was short and sweet and we hope to be back soon!
