Second Thursday of the Month = H***y Tonk Thursday!!!!

Tonight’s featured band is Grayson Jenkins

Join us for dance instruction at 6:00 and music at 7:00

Born and raised in Muhlenberg County, KY (yes, the one from John Prine’s “Paradise”) on a small goat and horse farm in the heart of coal country, Grayson Jenkins is equal parts songwriter, storyteller, traveler and country music artist. At his core, Jenkins is a curious truth-seeker, observing and writing about his own choices and circumstances; along with those of family, friends and strangers. He finds inspiration in his travels, conversations at the grocery store, traumatic events, and really anything that life sheds an interesting light on. Jenkins’ songs have gained the admiration of a loyal following, and fellow songwriters like Pony Bradshaw, Vincent Neil Emerson, and Nicholas Jamerson – all of whom have brought Jenkins on the road with them in the past two years.

Mountain True and The Brevard Sustainability Council are hosting an information session to help citizens make effective public comment against rescinding the Roadless Rule this Saturday at 4:00 at 185 King Street. These rules help protect 15% of Nantahala and Pisgah!!!!

The 2001 Roadless Rule has protected 59 million acres of US Forest Service land from road construction and logging for over 25 years. Now the Forest Service is proposing to rescind the rule to make way for road building, logging, and mining in America’s last great places. Here in WNC, the Roadless Rule protects 152,000 acres, or 15% or Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests. Some of the beloved places protected by the rule include Graveyard Fields, Laurel Mountain, The South Mills River, The Black Mountains, Tusquitee Bald, Cheoah Bald, Overflow Creek, Wilson Creek, and Chunky Gal Mountain.
In 2001 the Forest Service held hundreds of meetings and collected 1.6 million comments with 95% of people in favor of the rule. Today, the Forest Service is holding no public meetings, so local conservation groups are providing a forum for you to make your voice heard. Come ready to learn about how to defend our public lands, and connect with local experts on the Roadless Rule to help you craft your comment.
