Well, we have an important meeting coming up tomorrow, Wednesday, at 6PM, downtown in the county chambers. It is an FDEP hearing about the Deep Injection Well project for the Port of Manatee. FDEP is trying to fast-track this thing through and our county thinks it's a great idea because the use of these wells to store hazardous waste underground is a good idea. It's not: just take a look at the subject of deep injection wells on www.ProPublica.com to learn why.

Word has it that the applicants have indeed tried to slide in little extras and changes to the plan they submitted for the easternmost parcel. No surprise there, however. We all anticipated that.

Hi, everybody. I just heard that a merry band of you had a great time at today's Site Development Plan Protest for the Long Bar Pointe project. Great job! Now let's make sure we pack the commission chambers next Tuesday, 9am. Too many irregularities with the site plan.

This Florida legislation has Long Bar Pointe written all over it.

Under SB 372, large projects would no longer be reviewed by state officials if proposed for counties with a population of more than 300,000.

The Bradenton Area, on Florida's Gulf Coast, is the enemy of the artificial. It includes the town of Bradenton, Palmetto right across the Manatee River, Ellenton, the barrier island of Anna Maria, and a portion of Longboat Key, all part of Manatee County.

This is good news for everyone who recreates on Beer Can Island. We need to vigorously protect all our cherished recreational spaces in Manatee. Decision-makers sometimes think that all we do is work here and forget that we live here, too.

Here's a video my friend Larry K. took from yesterday's rally. It offers a good impression of who was present, including District 4 Commissioner Robin DiSabatino,, who with John Chappie and Michael Gallen were the only ones to vote "no" to mixed-use at Long Bar back in August. Whitmore, Benac, Bustle, and Baugh voted for the high-intensity mixed-use.

I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to the LBP Unity Rally yesterday. We had a great time. Just in case you are interested the leftover cake and other food did not go to waste. Ray and I took all of it over to a homeless camp here in Bradenton. The residents were incredibly grateful.
