🌟 Batch #140 - Raspberry Beret- Proof 126

Nose - All the WFE. Raspberry and vanilla but that old rickhouse note is excellent. You can smell the dust, the old wood and a subtle dark berry jam. There is a very, very subtle note of a creamy peanut butter. Not peanuts. More subdued but creamy. You guys know these are my jam, so it comes as no surprise that I love the nose. Its not overpowering but also not quite delicate either.
Palate - Not anywhere near subtle on the palate. The proof shows itself at first but lets up fairly fast. Strong raspberry, the vanilla is a lot more subtle than WFE releases past. Still present just less. The nutty * possibly - Heaven Hill* profile hits right in the mid palate. Then the old takes over. Oak, dust and char. There is a hint of that Play-Do note in there that really catches and mixes with a nice jam. I would say the front palate is slightly stronger than the back - it makes it drink more like a SIB than a blend which makes it an interesting and attention grabbing pour. As it sits though, it does balance and become very even across the palate. I could see an argument to be made for some Dr. Pepper notes or some cola syrup.
Finish - Raspberry, cherry, oak and char. The char lightens as the pour airs and after about 20 minutes - its about a perfect ratio for me. A little smokey and just a small hint of that famous cardboard note. Its balanced out well with the oak and a little soda syrup. If you like old wh***ey profiles - this is for you.

Blend of 5YR 21%, 9YR 21%, 11YR 36%, 13YR 36% MGP & OZ Tyler, and 8YR 95/5 MGP & 51% Rye MGP Finished In Stagg, Cerise, Chocolate and Vanilla

Nose - loads of cherry juice. Intertwined is a powdered cocoa mix and a chocolate cake batter. It blends well with a light note of rickhouse and oak and vanilla. One could argue a milk chocolate. It smells sugary and sweet but also lovely hints of aged wh***ey. Initial nose is a lot of cherry but as it opens - the chocolate really does a great job of balancing it out.
Palate - Loads of chocolate and cherries. Thick mouthfeel. Nice and oily. Its not nearly as sugary as candy but its nice and sweet. The age of the 13yr addition does a great job of playing the supporting role. Enough Bourbon and Rye notes to satisfy the purist but also fun enough to be a change of pace when you want something different.
Finish - a nice powdered sugar finish with lingering notes of the chocolate, vanilla and cherry. The chocolate does show some cocoa powder yet again. That aged bourbon kills it here with those old oak notes. I would not call this charry at all though which is really nice. It plays well with the other notes by just being sweet and aged. Here is where the rye decides to really show off with a nice light pepper. Its somewhat subtle but still noticeable and interesting.
