Pay no attention to the men behind the curtain… Well, maybe just for a second.
Good Life’s owner Peter and myself (DJ Knife) have worked with each other for 15 years now. It’s weird to think we won’t be doing this anymore.
I left a journalism job to come here in 2007 and have handled the nightlife booking and social media ever since.
It was easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
For some, Good Life was a place where Downtown suits could grab a burger, drink a beer and wait out traffic after work.
For others, it was a second home. Babies were conceived after nights spent here and people met their husbands, wives and partners inside these brick walls.
It’s also a place where DJs got their start. This was essential. Half of Boston’s DJs cut their teeth playing here over the last 17 years. Some DJs playing their first sets, figuring out their names, identities, the ideas for their parties and the way to rock a crowd.
The beauty of GL is it means so many different things to so many people.
We’ve touched at least 3 to 4 generations of patrons, promoters and performers.
Good Life cut it’s own path in Boston nightlife and a lot of that was Peter and I wanting to do things differently than what was going on around us. When other clubs said no rap music, we said turn it up louder, and make sure you play the dirty version.
We got a chance to meet our heroes and put money in the pockets of DJs we idolized and hip-hop legends. We threw ridiculous events that 90% of club owners would say no to. And that’s thanks to Peter's sense of humor and willingness to take chance and do things differently.
We want to thank each and every patron who supported this place over the years. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
From the bottom of our hearts, we hope you lost something of value and gained something of equal value while coming here. We hope you laughed. We hope you didn’t cry too much. We hope you moshed. We hope you sweat, danced and grinded with others. We hope you spilled a drink on each other. We hope you hooked up with a random person. And as corny as it sounds, we hope you had a good life.
Special thanks to the WBUR team for writing about us, taking this photo and allowing us to use it.
