This week’s lineup:

Powerful and aromatic. Bold and dark. Sandalwood, rose, raspberry jam.

Cab blend | Carpineto Dogajolo | Italy - Cherry, black currant, earth and tomato leaf flavors mark this open, easygoing red. Light tannins leave a dry finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our weekly free tastings are a great place to learn about wine in a low pressure setting. This week we sample mostly California wines. Drop by 5:30-7:30 every Wednesday evening to taste. No reservations needed for this free tasting and all questions are welcome.

This week’s lineup:
Sauv Blanc | Ancient Peaks | a crisp, coastal-influenced white wine from Paso Robles, California, Featuring bright citrus and tropical fruit notes.

Pinot Noir | One Stone Winery | One Stone Pinot Noir comes from select coastal vineyards in California’s San Luis Obispo County, where pronounced marine conditions produce a delectable Pinot Noir with flavors of red fruits and light spices.

Cabernet Sauvignon | One Stone Winery | Classic California Cab. Plum, black olive, caramel, graphite. The palate features black cherry, cassis, cranberry, fig, anise, and espresso. Velvety textures and flashy tannins complete the experience of this fully expressed Cabernet Sauvignon

Rosè | Mirabeau Forever Summer | The single non California wine at this week’s tasting. Pale apricot color. On the nose, bursting with notes of red fruits, raspberries and pomegranate. Fruity with a fresh finish. Lots of white cherry and pomegranate.

Professors and Pints is a free series happening many Thursdays! Dr. Christopher Bartel(Philosophy and Religion) kicks off the Fall 2026 schedule. Professors and Pints features professors presenting interesting topics in a fun, informal setting. Join us at 6pm, feel free to reserve a table! These 45ish minute talks will be followed by a Q&A.

Aesthetics and Video Games introduces current issues and ideas in philosophical aesthetics that help us to better understand why video games are different from cinema, animation and other types of fiction.

Addressing two foundational issues, the notion of the aesthetic and the value of play, it asks what the aesthetic is and investigates how value arises from different forms of play. Introducing the history and theory surrounding these questions, this book:

- Offers an account of the value of games that places gameplay and interactivity at its core
- Acknowledges the importance of both ethical and feminist criticisms of games
- Offers a novel account of how video games can be valued as competitions, narratives, and toys
- Suggests ways in which a theory of the aesthetics of games must move beyond traditional approaches in aesthetics.

Drawing from work in philosophy, media studies, psychology, and gender studies, it not only demonstrates how theories from these areas can helpfully come into conversation with each other, it explores new paradigms, models, and concepts that aid our knowledge of video games in today’s culture.

We are pumped for this week’s tasting! The lineup:

Meyer-Fonne Gentil - Exotic, perfumed notes from Muscat swirl around classic Riesling aromas like pear and nectarine. A beautiful pale straw color belies the dense stone fruit on the palate. The wine has tension and texture, and it finishes with hints of nuttiness and a lemon zest twang.

Silvio Giamello Barbaresco - Silvio Giamello is the best Barbaresco producer you have never heard of. From just five acres of Nebbiolo, he quietly and humbly crafts wines brimming with authenticity that always overdeliver, yet remain underpriced for the quality you’ll find in the bottle. Old vines, natural fermentations, large cask aging, and an unfiltered bottling: this is the full package. The warm 2022 vintage yielded a splendidly thick, chewy Barbaresco that will develop beautifully in your cellar.

Domaine Gramenon - “Poignée de Raisins”—a fistful of grapes—accomplishes the elusive feat of boasting both soul and soaring joie de vivre. If there were a Hall of Fame for French bistro reds, Poignée would be a first-ballot inductee. This vibrant and classy cuvée is the southern France counterpart to our favorite Morgons, and exemplifies that ideal intersection between progressive farming, meticulous winemaking, and honest expression of its unique Rhône terroirs. Vines grow in galets roulés under the southern sun, which means there’s plenty of earth, garrigue, and grip, but this is no doubt Gramenon’s most easy-drinking bottling.

Drop by Wednesdays between 5:30-7:30 for a free tasting and 30% off bottles! No reservation required. We hope to see you!
