The name “speakeasy” comes from the instruction to “speak easy” so neighbors and police wouldn’t hear patrons drinking. 🤫

2️⃣ Hidden Doors Were Common

Many speakeasies had secret entrances, like bookcases, basements, or unmarked doors — finding them was half the fun! 📚🚪

3️⃣ Passwords Were Required

You often needed a daily password to get in. Wrong password? No entry, sometimes even a staged “no vacancy” act. 🔑

4️⃣ Jazz & Flappers

Speakeasies weren’t just about booze — they were hotspots for jazz bands and flappers, young women who embodied the 1920s rebellious spirit. 🎷💃

5️⃣ Use what ya got

Bartenders had to make the most of low-quality or homemade alcohol, inventing bathtub gin and clever cocktails like the Bee’s Knees or Sidecar. 🍹

🥂 A little news, old sport…

Gatsby was created to share our love of the roaring ’20s w/as many as possible. Being sold out and winning awards has been the 🐝 knees, but something was still missing. Somewhere along the way it got a bit too…stuffy

So we’re changing that. No dress code.

Same award-winning speakeasy. Same cocktails that time you to another era. Just easier to slip in for a night on the town.

Come as you are and join the fun. ✨
