DID YOU KNOW BOERNE'S OLDEST CONTINUOUS BUSINESS DATES BACK TO 1882?

Long before Lost Oak Cellars occupied its downtown location, the building was home to a chapter of one of Boerne's oldest family businesses. Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home

The story began with Carl Oscar “C.O.” Ebensberger, a Prussian immigrant and cabinet maker who established his undertaking business in Boerne in 1882. Just a year later, he also opened a hardware store and lumber company, operating the businesses together near what is now the Rosewood and Main Street area.

His son Edmund Walter Ebensberger took over the funeral business in 1907.

Decades later, Edmund built the Art Deco funeral home at 111 Rosewood Avenue, where the business operated beginning in 1938. That historic building is now home to Lost Oak Cellars.

The business continued through generations of the Ebensberger family and today operates as Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home at 1265 N. Main Street, continuing a Boerne story that began more than 140 years ago.
