The medals came in today from the IBU Open homebrew competition held in late February! The weizenbock took silver and the Morale Booster IPA (with Honey) took bronze. So many great beers and brewers, I’m happy to come away with anything! Big thanks to the organizers, judges, stewards, and everyone that made the event happen. Cheers!

Wow! What a medal and nice prize pack! This is from my Scottish Light that took silver in the Hoppy Halloween Challenge out of Fargo, ND. I’ve see their medals in photos and photos do not do these justice. Very unique and cool. Scored a gift card, hops, cleaners, swag, and a hydrometer! Congrats to all the fellow brewers!

Had some beers place in the Dayton Draft Brewfest, a smaller Homebrew competition, in Dayton Ohio last weekend! An American Stout took Gold, Irish Extra Stout took Silver, and both my Scottish Heavy and Imperial Stout took Bronze. Never mind the names, it was a last minute decision to enter. I took the last five slots before the competition filled up and put in whatever popped into my head to quickly get the entry in, lol. Thank you to the competition organizers, judges and stewards for making this event possible. Looks like there were many great beverages submitted.

The first place ribbon from the National homebrew competition first round arrived today! It was for the Scottish heavy. The heavy will now advance to the final round in June. Even if it doesn’t place in the finals, I am glad it even made it this far. People typically send their best beers to NHC, so even placing in the first round is a big deal. The finals are the best of the best across the country. We’ll see how it does. Good luck to all the competitors! Cheers!

Went to Snake Saturday today in NKC, where they held the awards ceremony for the Grain to Glass Irish beer comp. My Irish Extra Stout, “I-rish I was drinking right now,” won first place! Thanks, GtG, for hosting!

Kansas City Bier Meisters 36th annual homebrew competition wrapped up last night, and it was great as always. It was a first rate event that was coordinated and staffed by great people that have a passion for home brewing. The banquet was outstanding and the awards didn’t disappoint. A lot of great brewers took home awards.

Red Crate Brewing’s Rumpy Pumpy Scottish Heavy took 1st place in the Scottish and Irish Ale category (which came with a bag of grain-now to decide what to brew with that 🙂)

Bottling night is always something to look forward to. It’s putting the final touches on packaging the beers for comps and sharing. This one was a saison. Turned out very clear and tasty. Got to use the vintage bench bottle capper and it worked great!

Got our last medal of 2018 last night. A bronze for the American Strong Ale, from the FOAM Cup, out of Oklahoma. They sent some swag earlier too. A great way to close out the year.

Now to keg up the 28 gallons of beers that I have lined up for 2019... Cheers!
