Mary Jane 2 – An Invitation
In a co-production between Longshadr Productions and Dell’Arte, MARY JANE THE MUSICAL 2; THE GRANDSON will be opening June 20, 2026 as part of the Dell’Arte Badua’t (Mad River) Festival. It will be written by Michael Fields and co-directed by Fields and Roman Sanchez.
And we are inviting you all to participate.
We are looking to crowd source the songs. If you have a song you think would work for this show, you can send an audio file to [email protected]. You own the song. If we use it, we will pay you $100 and credit you in the program. You will always own the song. We would just use it in the production.
If you have a perspective that you think would be good for the show I have placed the short synopsis below along with the 4 essential interview questions I have been asking people.
SYNOPSIS: Mary Janes grandson has inherited in the land in Sohum where she started growing in the "back to the land" movement of the late 60's. Given the current state of the cannabis economy, he can't afford to keep the land anymore. He feels he has to give it up. He throws a party to say goodbye to the land (and the life). The party is the play. The guests at the party are the characters from his (and his Grandmothers) life and the work in cannabis. There will be surprise arrivals, unseen conflicts, and past messes revealed. It is a kind of requiem for the land and the legacy. Spoiler alert, in the end he decides not to sell. (and I will doing a lot of interviews starting next week to get more background). True "theatre of place".
These are the four main questions being asked.
1. What are the essential differences between now and 15 years ago in the Cannabis world. 2. What do you think the future of Cannabis is? 3. Do you know people who've been put through the wringer… What are their stories? 4. Aside from the "high" what is the draw of cannabis?
MARY JANE THE MUSICAL premiered 15 years ago with the amazing Joan Schirle in the title role. A lot has changed since then. And in “theatre of place” fashion, we are looking to cast some light on the shadows. I am happy to interview people and look forward to what the community says.
