A Message to the Blackwell Community
We are the owners of the property at 1018 W. Doolin. Many of you may remember it as the former home of The Stack Restaurant (formerly Limbaugh’s, named after the hotel ownership company’s CEO), and later Lila’s Place. Moe was the long-term tenant most recently.
As the community has likely noticed, the hotel property—inside and out—has undergone a complete renovation and will soon reopen as one of the newest hotel accommodations in Blackwell. We are proud that a national hotel brand, Wyndham, has survived and thrived in the heart of Blackwell, America’s Hometown, continuously since 1985. We have invested significantly to ensure the long-term viability and future of this hotel and business in our community.
In the near future, we plan to host an open house so the Blackwell community can see the improvements and changes firsthand.
At the same time, we want to be transparent: we are still searching for the best business purpose for the adjacent property at 1018 W. Doolin. We have begun—and are close to completing—a full exterior refresh of the former restaurant building, and we hope the community likes the new look.
Our original plan was to reopen a restaurant in September; however, after consultation with our accounting advisors, we were advised to wait for the start of a new accounting calendar. We recognize this felt like a “bait and switch,” and for that, we sincerely apologize. We also acknowledge that we could have done a better job listening sooner and honoring the will of Blackwell.
That brings us to why we are writing.
Our Question to the Community
What kind of business does Blackwell truly need—and can support?
Even better: what type of revenue-based business would best serve our town while remaining financially sustainable?
Facts About the Property
• 4,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose, food-and-beverage-focused building with prime frontage
• Active Oklahoma full liquor license, including package sales and off-site catering
• 2,000 sq. ft. brand-new commercial kitchen with new refrigeration, freezers, fresh air return, and exhaust
• 500 sq. ft. of dry storage
• Seating for approximately 80 in a newly refreshed dining room and bar
• Space suitable for an outdoor live music venue
We are open to any and all constructive community input. While we are deeply charity- and community-focused, this is a for-profit business, and we must balance the true needs of Blackwell with our fiduciary responsibility as local business owners.
We do have a concept ready—a simple, “Mary’s in Tonkawa”-style venue with karaoke, live music, and a relaxed atmosphere—that we could reopen relatively quickly. But the real question is:
Is this the best use of this space for Blackwell?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’ve made it this far, it’s because you care about Blackwell—and so do we. We ask that you think, pray, and share your thoughts on how this space can best be used to help strengthen the future of Blackwell, Oklahoma.
With gratitude,
Will and Larry Limbaugh & Family
