Black Forest Brewing Company is more than a brewery—it’s the result of a lifetime of service, travel, and a desire to finally put down roots.
Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Black Forest Brewing was founded by Donovan and Tara Routsis after a combined 45+ years of military service. During his career in the United States Air Force, Donovan traveled the world experiencing different cultures, cuisines, and communities. While those experiences were unforgettable, constant relocation made it difficult to truly become part of a community.
When retirement approached, Colorado was the obvious choice. It was where Donovan and Tara met, married, and where Donovan first discovered craft brewing while stationed at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
Today, Black Forest Brewing Company combines those life experiences into a brewery built around family, community, and great beer. Local ingredients sourced from area farmers and businesses help connect the brewery to the region it calls home, while the welcoming atmosphere reflects the owner’s vision of creating a true gathering place.
What stood out on the Beer Guyz April trip was how personal the brewery feels. You can sense that this place wasn’t built simply to sell beer—it was built to create connections.
After years of serving around the world, the Routsis family created a place where people can gather, share stories, and feel at home.
That’s what community brewing is all about.
