"Walter Miller, Piano at Joe's Bar" by Rowland Scherman

This photograph by famed LIFE photographer Rowland Scherman depicts Walter Miller playing the piano at Joe, the Birmingham bar & bistro that helped revitalize Five Points South back in the 1980's. Walter was a star trumpet soloist with the Sun Ra Orchestra, who was sidelined by a lung disorder and had to quit playing. But this jazzman had music in his very soul and his piano playing was as brilliant as any other in his generation. Walter's playing can be heard on the album we made, "Live at Joe" with the Jimmy Colvin Quartet. This photograph was made at an afternoon session with Walter Miller at Joe's second location.

🕳 We're hosting a Live Auction this year to kick off Art From The Heart! While the in-person event is only open to members and sponsors, the Live Auction will also be streaming online so that everyone can participate! The Live Auction will start at 7pm on Thursday, July 15th.
🕳 The next morning, July 16th at 8am, will start the Silent Auction! This will be totally online and will run until 6pm on Sunday, July 18th.
🕳 Most items will be available for shipping, so join us even if you're not local!
🕳 We'll have about 250 pieces of art ranging from paintings to prints to ceramics to home goods!
