Did you know our home on Montana Avenue was right in the heart of the action when Billings officially became the "Magic City"? 🚂✨

Back in 1882, the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived right here, and things changed forever. Almost overnight, a tent city turned into a bustling hub of trade and travel. It’s why we’re so proud to be part of this historic stretch today!

The photo here shows the Union Depot just a few decades after that first train rolled in. Our building actually served as the depot’s lunchroom back in the day: which makes it the perfect spot to keep the tradition of good drinks and great company alive.

Come grab a craft beer and soak in a little bit of Billings history with us. We’re open and ready to hear your favorite local stories!

Did you know that Hollywood once had a huge stake right here in Billings? For this , we're throwing it back to 1948: the year the Billings Mustangs got a serious dose of Tinseltown glamour! It all started with Bob Cobb, the owner of the famous Brown Derby restaurant in Los Angeles (and the man behind the legendary Cobb salad). He led a group of celebrity investors to bring the Mustangs to town. Bob didn’t come alone, though. He brought his A-list friends like Bing Crosby and Barbara Stanwyck along for the ride as team investors! There was even a direct connection to the Sultan of Swat himself, as Babe Ruth’s legendary agent, Christy Walsh, was part of the crew. It’s pretty cool to think about those Hollywood icons having a hand in our local sports history. Next time you’re hanging out on our patio, imagine the stars of the silver screen talking baseball in the Magic City. Cheers to the legends!

Check out this incredible snapshot of Billings history from 1958! It shows a major shift in our downtown skyline as the modern Yellowstone County Courthouse was built right alongside the original, ornate building. It’s wild to see that contrast in architecture standing side-by-side during the transition!

At Bar MT, we’re located in the historic Union Depot, so we definitely have a soft spot for the deep history of our city. We love being part of the legacy on Historic Montana Avenue and keeping the community spirit alive in these classic spaces.
