Happy History Friday, friends!

Look up from our patio and you'll spot the Northern Hotel, a Montana Avenue icon with a story of its own. The original Northern burned down in 1940, but the community didn't let that be the end of it: a brand new Northern opened in 1942, and it was once the tallest building in Montana, crowned with the biggest neon rooftop sign in the state. Now that's a landmark that knows how to make an entrance.

There's something we love about that: this street has always rebuilt, reinvested, and kept the good times rolling. From the railroad days to today, Montana Avenue is where Billings comes together, and we're proud to keep that spirit alive right here in the historic Union Depot.

Next time you're strolling the avenue, stop by for a craft b**r and a game, and take in the history all around you. Cheers to the neighborhood that never stops showing up! 🍻

History Friday: when Montana Avenue was Saloon Row 🍻

Back in 1905, Billings was a railroad town that knew how to unwind. There were 26 saloons in the city, and a whole cluster of them lined Montana Avenue within just a few blocks: the Ballard & Mendenhall, the Mint, the Sideboard, the Branch. Each one had its own regulars, its own pour, and its own stories.

More than a century later, Montana Avenue is still where folks gather for a cold one. We like to think we're carrying on that tradition here at Bar MT, just with better lighting, a dog-friendly patio, and a lot more games.

So come raise a glass to the row that started it all. You'll find us at 2314 Montana Avenue, in the historic Union Depot.

Lights, camera, Bar MT. 🎬

This Saturday, Oct 10, Bar MT is part of the Yellowstone Historical Society's Histories Mysteries auto tour of the movies and famous people who touched Billings.

Our story: the fight scene in Far and Away was filmed right here in the depot. And we have a theory about where the chicken coop stood. 🐔 Come hear it.

Tour runs 10 to 2. Tickets are $20 per carload at 3G's Convenience Stores and the Yellowstone County Museum, not at the bar.

The Northern Pacific built it on Montana Ave in approximately 1909 for a rumored $65,000, and today you can grab a b**r inside what was once the lunch room. Open 2 to 10.
