Meet the Owner ~ Laura Houlihan ~
Born and raised in Bethesda, Laura Houlihan’s roots in the community run deep. A proud graduate of Walt Whitman High School, Laura has dedicated an incredible 44 years to the restaurant industry, building not just a career, but a true calling. As a devoted mother of two, Laura has always balanced family and business with grace, heart, and determination.
Laura’s journey in hospitality began at Bradley Food & Beverage, where she first discovered her love for the restaurant business. From there, she continued to build her experience and reputation at The Inn at Glen Echo and La Ferme, learning from some of the area’s most beloved establishments. Much of Laura’s career has been spent right here on this very street Cordell Avenue in downtown Bethesda, where she has become a familiar and cherished face in the community, including her time at Grapeseed Bistro. Her longstanding presence and dedication have made her not just a restaurateur, but a true cornerstone of the neighborhood.
Her passion for hospitality is simply unmatched. For Laura, the restaurant business has never been just about serving food, it’s about creating connection, building relationships, and making every guest feel like family. Eleven years ago, she brought that vision to life when she opened Barrel & Crow, and fittingly, today on Mother’s Day, the restaurant celebrates its 11th anniversary.
Laura’s love for her community and her staff is at the heart of everything she does. She leads with kindness, inspires through hard work, and has created more than a restaurant, she’s built a home away from home for so many. Her warmth, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence continue to make Barrel & Crow a beloved gathering place. Laura’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and purpose, and her impact is felt by everyone lucky enough to walk through her doors.
