We have several reviews on Google. I shared one for the first time and wouldn't you know it- a bad review 2 days later on FB. 😂 You can't please them all. Unfortunately, we have nothing but this post of "Aenon's" to go by. I mean, for a bad review- them pictures are worth a thousand drools. 🤤 At least there's that. Plus, everyone who knows me knows I'll send EVERY order back to the kitchen if it ain't right. 😂 Too bad I wasn't there. 😬 Or maybe I was and wasn't notified. 🤷♀️ Anywho, this is an excellent opportunity to bring y'all up to date.
When we bought Marshall’s, it was not Marshall’s. It was a building which was previously occupied by a business we did not purchase. We bought the land/building from an estate. Many knowing the estate I'm referencing. That owner had bought Marquita's Place which later burned. Interesting tidbit... Marquita was Kevin's cousin. Cool huh? When we made our offer, it was on the heels of a previous offer which fell through because of a lack of funding. Since no business was being purchased, no records were available to prove its anticipated income making it difficult/impossible for anyone without funding to obtain it.
Our family also has land on 641, about a mile from Tractor Supply. We had tossed around the idea of an Event Center- bigger than anything in Marshall County. We spoke to county officials and *almost* went into an exuberant amount of debt to build it. We had plans of putting in a small restaurant because nothing is around our portion of the Southside of the county except a couple gas stations. When we came across the listing on Hwy 68, we decided to test the waters. Our family agreed to dip our toes into the industry before putting everything we own at risk.
We pumped a lot of money into upgrades. New kegs and coolers as the existing system was a window a/c unit cooling a cabinet of kegs & iced down troughs. Nice new barstools, 3 new mini splits, several new freezers & coolers, the list goes on & on, but those were much needed investments. I'd still love to replace the tables and/or chairs plus the booths. We also wanted to add-on & install some golf simulators. As everyone always says, "This place has so much potential." It was an honor to take it to the next level as did the owners prior to us.
Along the way, we've encountered one problem after another. As is life, as is this business. Many tried to tell us how to run our business or gave suggestions in order to be more profitable. While most were with good intentions, it just didn't match our intentions. Our goal was never to "get rich"- even though some thought our beer prices reflected that intention. 🫣 I've mentioned the 50/50 laws and many know the struggle we had trying to maintain our requirement by law. I was bound and determined to prove this place could make it- prove it's true potential per se. We flipped our establishment from a 50/50 bar & grill to ending 3rd quarter with 68 PERCENT FOOD SALES!!!! 🥳 An official restaurant's numbers. This was a HUGE success.
When our family took on this venture, we agreed Marshall’s had a one year expiration date for us. Pass or fail at this point is subjective. 🙌 We put everything we had into this business as a side gig to our nearly 50 year old family business. We have uncooked books to provide to anyone wanting to get a loan to own this establishment. We ran it on the up & up knowing that in 1 year's time someone would find this as an excellent opportunity with the proof it needs to get bank funding. That was our goal and so it seems, we have succeeded based on our goals & expectations. We signed the papers coming up on one year ago on- Nov 12th, 2024.
Marshall’s was recently listed on the private market meaning only realtors can see it. In the next week, the listing will go public. We've had a few nibbles. While it is possible that someone from outside of the community might sn**ch it up, I really hope someone local carries on the torch. Because like Aenon says above, "I like to see local people succeed." God bless everyone who helped us succeed. Couldn't have done it without customers to serve. It was our pleasure.
WE ARE NOT CLOSED YET! We're even open one more day this week!!! Watch for the events to be posted. We're only booked through this weekend though and will continue to operate by private/public reservations going forward until sold.
