🍃 ⭐️ Falling into Fresh ⭐️🍃

Brewed with our friends at ColdFire Brewing to celebrate Monkless’ 10th Anniversary, Falling into Fresh marks our first-ever fresh hop beer, pairing Belgian brewing tradition with one of the Pacific Northwest’s most celebrated seasonal ingredients.

Fresh Centennial hops were cryogenically “shattered,” flash-frozen with liquid nitrogen to expose more aromatic hop oils and capture their vibrant, freshly harvested character. Bright citrus and soft grapefruit lead the way, while whirlpool additions of Saphir and Centennial build on the fresh hop aromatics with notes of grapefruit, pine, tangerine, and gentle spice.

The result is a crisp, refreshing Belgian-style Pale Ale with bright citrus, expressive fresh-hop character, and a subtle Belgian influence. Light and easy-drinking, Falling into Fresh brings together two brewing traditions in a beer made to celebrate 10 years of Monkless and the great friends we’ve made along the way.

The Beers That Built Monkless 🍻

On September 12th, we’re celebrating 10 years of Monkless Belgian Ales! And as we look back on the last decade, there are a few beers that have played an extra-special role in getting us here.

🍺 The Trinity — Our traditional Belgian Tripel and one of the styles that inspired Todd to start homebrewing in the first place.

🏆 Meet Your Maker — Our most-awarded beer, with 9 medals to its name, and another style that helped spark Todd’s love of Belgian beer.

🌾 Peppercorn Imperial Wit — Our top-selling beer for 10 years and one of the beers that brought home our first World Beer Cup win.

🌿 Capitulation — Our first venture into hoppy beer. We may have capitulated to the hops, but we never gave up the Belgian tradition. And it joined Peppercorn Imperial Wit in earning Monkless its first World Beer Cup medals.

These aren’t just beers on our tap list. They’re part of the story of Monkless, and the last 10 years wouldn’t be the same without them.

Now we want to hear from you: Which Monkless beer has been YOUR favorite over the years? 🍻

Think you know Belgian beer? Here are 5 things that might surprise you.

1. Belgian beer isn’t one “style”.
“Belgian beer” covers a HUGE range, Golden Ales, Dubbels, Tripels, Quads, Saisons, Wits and more. Light & refreshing to dark & boozy… there’s a Belgian style for everyone.

2. The yeast is kind of a big deal.
Those fruity, spicy flavors you taste? They don’t always come from added fruit or spices. Belgian yeast can naturally create flavors reminiscent of banana, pear, clove, pepper and bubblegum during fermentation.

3. Darker doesn’t always mean stronger.
A dark Dubbel can actually have less alcohol than a pale, golden Tripel. With Belgian beer, color doesn’t dictate strength. Sneaky, sneaky.

4. The glass actually matters.
Belgian beers are traditionally served in different glass shapes for a reason. Tulips, goblets and chalices can help showcase the beer’s aroma, carbonation and head — it’s not just about looking fancy.

5. Belgian beer has some serious history.
Monasteries have played a major role in Belgian brewing for centuries, brewing beer for their communities and eventually to help support the monastery and charitable work. Many of the styles we know today were shaped by these brewing traditions.

And that concludes today’s Belgian Beer 101.

Celebrate Belgian Beer Week with us at The Abbey Taproom and taste a little Belgian brewing tradition right here in Bend.

🍻 We’re so excited to give you a sneak peek at our latest collaboration brew with ColdFire Brewing & Public House - and Monkless’s first ever fresh hop beer! 🍺
Brewed with Centennial hops from Crosby Hops this one is all about capturing that incredible fresh-hop character you love.

Using a technique called Nitrogen Shattering, we’re able to separate the hop oils from the hop flowers, unlocking even more of that vibrant, fresh hop flavor and aroma.

We can’t wait for you to try this one.

Stay tuned for the drop!

Cheers!

⭐️Introducing Saison de Kin!⭐️

Brewed with our Friends (and Family) at Wild Ride Brewing, this bountiful Saison is bold on aroma, with an even more rewarding flavor!
Made with pilsner, spelt, and rye malts, this beer features late boil additions of lemongrass and coriander before fermentation with passion fruit purée.

Front and center is tart and juicy passion fruit, followed by notes of clove, banana and lemongrass. A silky-smooth body ushers in every sip, providing a solid backbone for a crisp and refreshing imbibe throughout.
