Our Mystery Wine this week was 2024 Lagar da Condesa ‘Kentia’ Albariño from Rias Baixas in Northern Spain. Cooler climate and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean gives this wine pale straw color with green reflexes, elevated acidity and salinity on the finish. We have some stone and tropical fruit going on but it’s not very ripe. A bit of white flowers like jasmine and that phenolic bitterness that makes already strong acidity feel even higher. It’s a light body, zippy wine, great for summertime seafood dishes. Congrats to all who participated! You guys are getting really good at this! Next week we’ll have another blind adventure. Join us!

For those who are playing: Our Mystery Wine this week was 2023 Domaine Alain Graillot Croze-Hermitage. It’s a 100% Syrah from Northern Rhône in France. It’s driven by secondary notes of olive, herbs and what some of you described as ‘woodiness and spice’ which in this case is a result of whole cluster fermentation rather than oak aging. The fruit is mostly dark like black cherry and plum and it’s not very ripe. The wine has medium plus body, medium plus acidity and alcohol and medium tannins. Syrah has a characteristic purple color with pink rim. Northern Rhône is a pretty warm area so the color is deep with a bit of staining of the tears. This is a super classic example of a Northern Rhône Syrah and one of my favorites 😋 I hope you had fun blind tasting and see you next Wednesday and Thursday!

I’m not letting you wait whole week for this one. Our Mystery Wine this week was 2022 Saget la Perriere “L’Origine’ Blanc Fumé de Pouilly aka. Sauvignon Blanc from Loire Valley in France. Light and zippy, with a bit of flinty minerality (that’s what ‘fumé’ references to), the wine is dry, has high acidity, medium alcohol and medium body. No new oak was used for aging here. It’s driven by a bit of green notes of grass, asparagus and gooseberries with strong bitter grapefruit flavors, green apple and pear. At the same time it shows aroma and flavor of honey which may suggest presence of botrytis cinerea (aka. Noble rot) that produces this kind of flavor. Dry wines from 2022 vintage were not particularly affected by this rot since the growing season in Loire Valley was dry but I think a little bit made its way to this wine making it very pleasant and interesting. Besides that, the fruit is not very ripe and there are green herbal notes. Great job everyone on this one and come see us next Wednesday and Thursday to try your skills on another Mystery Wine. Today is Saturday and we’re open 12pm-12am.

On Tuesday evening, we and Clara B's Kitchen Table hosted our second annual collaboration fundraiser dinner for Art on the Square! Chef Jodie and her team curated a six course menu honoring notable women in art. We paired the dishes with some excellent wines. Thank you to all who attended and helped to make this an evening to remember!

Although we’ve been open for only five years, this is actually our sixth art inspired cocktail celebrating (remember that October post covid AOTS? It was our first one!). This time, Maeden created a ‘Sun of the Desert’ cocktail inspired by a painting of this year’s Art on the Square participant, Aubrey Hogan https://adhoganart.com/. It’s pretty rad! Come over this week to try it. Today is Wednesday and we’re open 4pm-10pm.
