Hello Out There!

I wanted to let all you fans of Huckleberry and Moscato know that there are places in Beatrice to find both...!

The Ste Chapelle Huckleberry is now available at the new wine/beer/liquor section in Heartland Foods (old IGA) market. So is the Josh Cab and Ruta 22 and a few others, from what I saw.

The Turning Leaf Moscato, always the most popular, is available for sure at House of Bottles as well as at the Buss Stop I believe.

I hope everyone is doing well. It is still very strange not to be walking into Duke's everyday, but them's the breaks. I wish you all the best and hope to see you around town soon.

Take care,

James

One more night to go on our wine sale! We still have a nice selection of moscatos and huckleberry left. We are nearly out of all our reds, though.

Plenty of cold beer and wine in the fridge, too. We will open the doors one more time at 5pm tonight. Hope to see you in...

A Last Little Bark and Bite from the Wine Dog...

Hi Everyone!

It has been an emotional week for us at Duke's. We had a tremendous outpouring of support and well wishes from hundreds upon hundreds of people last week. I would like to thank you all SO MUCH for all your kind words and thanks and tears. It meant so much to me to see everyone in the cafe.

I had mentioned to many of you to keep an ear out for a final wine sale... and so this weekend on THURSDAY and FRIDAY from 5pm to 9pm myself and my father and Duke will open the doors for a final Wine Liquidation from our remaining inventory. All bottles are $12 or less! Further discounts on half case or full case purchases. We have a about 10 cases of wine left and are looking to move it all out the door!

We have a selection of sweet whites and reds (moscato, pinot gris, and the ever fave Huckleberry) and a few dry reds left as well.

In addition to the wine sale, all my chilled wine and beer and liquor will be on reduced prices - so think of it as an on-going happy hour each night for whatever is left in the coolers. I would love to see your smiling faces once more! Please come in if you have the chance!

Take care, and again, thank you all for the great send off last week. I will miss you and the good times we shared.

Best wishes,

James

Hello out there everyone!

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you all today. My father and I, after some very long discussions, have decided to close Duke's Cafe & Wine Bar. While we are very proud that we brought our vision to life in downtown Beatrice, and had so many wonderful times within its walls, we are forced to deal with the reality of our situation.

Hindsight will always be 20/20. I am sure there are 1000 things I could have done differently, and everyone will have their opinion on how we could have succeeded better, or why it seems we failed. We are not going to dwell on such matters, but are moving on to new things in our lives. We did it our way, with honest and open hearts, and that is the clearest expression I can give to any such discussion.

Most of all I want to thank my loyal staff who have worked tremendously hard to make Duke's the success it was - a warm, friendly place where everyone was always welcome. Thank you Kyle, Tami, Connie, Mia, Steve, Devon, Kristin, Amber, Riley, Harley, Dennis, Dianne, Paige, and Capri. And thank you Dad, for all your support and time and energy and wonderful wine knowledge.

I would also like to thank all of our wonderful customers who made the place what it was. Those of you who always offered a smile or a hug and sang the praises of our little place to the larger world. You know who you are, and I will miss seeing you week in and week out. Who knew Beatrice liked wine as much as it does!

Dukes will be open this week through Friday night, August 30th. That will be our last night of full menu service. If you have any Gift Cards please try to make it in! Wine Club members, too.

Again, thank you to everyone in the community who helped make Duke's a wonderful spot. We will miss you, but it is time for us to go. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. If you want stop in for a bite or a glass of vino, please do. Dad and I will be in all week and would enjoy a chance to say goodbye in person.

PS. Duke's will not be open for brunch tomorrow (Sunday the 18th). Sorry for the late notice!

Hi out there in Weekend-land!

Its been a busy week here at Duke's. The "Duke Days of Summer" was a hit - the place was packed and we had a great time. Thank you to everyone who turned out to support the Beatrice Humane Society. Special thanks again to Crystal from Beer Paws and Traci at Edward Jones for hosting the event with us. We had a great time!

Hi All!

It's cool and cloudy out...I am already thinking about Fall: back to school, pencils and pens, and those terrible early mornings again. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's remember that Summer is not over yet!

We are hosting our next tasting a week from tonight, Thursday August 15th. Our "Duke Days of Summer" will be a beer and wine tasting night to raise money for the local Humane Society. The event is being sponsored in part by our friends at Edward Jones and the overly dog friendly people from Beer Paws, who's wares will be available at Dukes that night.

The tasting will include up to 4 beers and 4 wines, all with pet friendly labels! The cost is as before, $10 per ticket. This gets you a full tasting and glass of your favorite. The beers and wines we taste will also be on special that night by the glass/bottle. The tasting ticket is good for $5 off any entree or 1/2 price on any appetizer. During the tasting a few appetizers will be on the house thanks to our sponsors!

10% of the night's profit will go to the Humane Society. Let's help them raise some funds for the local critters who need our help. Stop in next Thursday to raise a glass to them, all their hard work and dedication, and to help the pooches out. Duke will be here, too!

What a crazy beautiful weekend we are having! The prime rib is starting to waft its way forward towards the wine bar and we also have some grilled pizzas tonight for a fresh, simple summer meal. Stop in if you have a few moments to share some wine and food with us. Dad and Duke will be down around 5 if you want to say hi to the big guy and Mr Handsome himself (the dog...not my dad, who is of course handsome in his own, brightly-colored shirt kind of way).

Have a great weekend, enjoy this wonderful weather, the fair, etc. See you soon!

Hi out there!

I wanted to send you a little reminder about our next special wine tasting night. We are all set for next Wednesday night, July 31st. Like last time we will taste up to 8 different wines, a mix of light and sweet to bold and serious. We will offer tastings from 5pm to 8pm at $10 per person. Your tasting ticket is good for $5 off any dinner entree, that night or in the future. Reservations are not needed, but if you would like to stay for dinner in a larger group we would surely like to save a spot for you!

I hope everyone's summer is going along splendidly. See you around at Duke's soon!

Hello out there in Mondayland! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Duke's was hopping - thanks to everyone who came in for food and wine! Specially you, birthday girl (I did not post the photos, Kathy!).

We have set the night for our next mid-week wine tasting! On the last day of this month, July 31st (a Wednesday) we will be offering another large sampling of some new wines at Dukes. We are happy to share a new line of Handcraft varietals (a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir, a Cab, and a splendid Petite Syrah) as well as some new refreshing summer sweets - a bubbly Pinot Grigio and Moscato!

The set-up will be the same as last: taste up to 8 new sips and choose a small glass of your favorite to finish for $10. Keep your tasting ticket and use it for $5 off any entree that night or in the future at Dukes.

The event will run all night at Dukes - from 5:30pm to 8pm. We hope to see you there!

Have a nice week, everyone. See you soon!

This week brings the Sidewalk Sales back downtown. Now leaving all our wine out in the sun for a few days would not be in good taste, but stop in for $1 iced teas and lemonades while you are out and about.

While you are here take a peak at all the closeout deals on our wine inventory. We are offering a "Buy a bottle, get a 2nd bottle for only $1" special on select wines. Choose from Cabs to Zins to Chards to Rieslings...only while supplies last.

The Community-Wide Yard Sale and downtown Sidewalk Sale runs from Thursday July 11 - July 14.

Have fun, stay cool, and stop in.
