The history of Old City Hall starts with the opening of the building in the late 1890’s as the first city hall for the city of Bay City. It remained the city hall for short period where it was then moved. It has been accredited to the vast interests of the Downtown being on
“Hell’s Half Mile” which got its name from the uncontrollable rough activities, sultry brothels, and Wild Saloons within that stretch of road during the early logging days, which caused its relocation. With the city resting right on the Saginaw River, which leads to the bay connecting the shipping channel to lake Huron. The City was a center for loggers and ship builders. Old City Hall is also featured in several “Haunted Buildings” of Bay City Books. There have been several eyewitness occurrences that have put the building into several publishing’s.
