As many of you have heard, one of our young Crooked Bass family members, 16 year old Chase Douglas, suffered severe injuries in a car accident on April 19.
Chase is now home from the hospital — Praise God! He still needs our help as he continues to recover from a spinal cord injury, numerous broken bones and 7 surgeries (and awaiting his 8th). He may have had broken bones, but his spirit, faith and positive attitude remain strong and unbroken and we are so very thankful for that.
Thanks to the generosity of so many of you after our initial post about the accident, we have raised enough money to construct a ramp and, hopefully, be able to modify one of the bathrooms in their home to give him wheelchair access. He was also the recipient of a power wheelchair, thanks to a family whose son had received a new one.
While there have been so many blessings for which we are truly grateful, there are still many long-term expenses that Chase’s family will face with his extensive rehabilitation that is now being done on an outpatient basis. The rehab, as well as doctor appointments with various specialists, requires his mom to miss work for the appointments in Orlando, which require a lot of gas. Funds are still needed to help modify their vehicle or to put towards the purchase of a wheelchair accessible vehicle to make it safer for Chase to have access to the vehicle. There are also certain medical needs that, sadly, are not covered by his insurance (despite the fact that they are medically-necessary for his condition).
Many of you have asked if we will be hosting a benefit for Chase and we are pleased to say that it’s been scheduled!
We will be hosting a benefit barbecue on Saturday, June 27 from noon - 3 pm in our Tiki.
We will have Smoked Pulled Pork and Smoked Chicken Dinners for a $15 minimum donation per dinner with 100% of the proceeds going to the Chase Douglas Donation Account, which has been established at the Mid-Florida Credit Union. Dinners will include baked beans, macaroni & cheese and a roll.
Dinners can be purchased using cash, checks (payable to Chase Douglas Donation Account) or CashApp ($tcbracewell0827).
If you cannot make it by on the 27th but would like to make a monetary donation to help, you can donate directly to Chase via the CashApp above or you are welcome to drop off your donation at the restaurant. Any amount is appreciated and 100% will be used for Chase’s care.
If you would like to preorder BBQ dinners (which would DEFINITELY help us to know how much to prepare!), please post in the comments how many you would like.
On behalf of Chase and his family, we thank you, in advance. Your help and your prayers for continued healing for Chase are appreciated.
