Our Story

The North Door is a live music, performance and event venue, located on Austin’s East Side, just one block east of IH-35. Built into the former soundstage of 501 Studios, The North Door has a rich history of art and performance, and now houses one of Austin’s finest stages and sound systems, two bars, balcony seating, and a 25-foot HD video projection wall. Adjacent to the main room is East Austin’s best kept secret; a cozy cocktail lounge, perfect for intimate performances, events, and whatever you can think of! Our soon-to-be renovated patio allows you to dine and drink while enjoying the amazing Austin weather. Each night we present an eclectic mix of local and touring acts covering a wide spectrum of genres; from spoken word to comedy acts, and jazz to experimental rock, we pretty much cover it all, and everything in between. We are also the home to some of Austin’s most successful performance and reading series’, and have served as an incubator for shows and edutainment that have gained National attention. We are the largest independently owned live music venue in East Austin, and our production capabilities are beyond that of other venues our size in Austin. The versatility of the room is paramount. For theatre type events, we can house 215 seated guests on our main floor, and 30 VIP balcony seats. For a standing room only show, we can accommodate 300 with ease. Since 2012, we have made numerous improvements to the space including an expanded balcony and green room, a state-of-the-art sound system, polished concrete floors, a soon-to-be renovated patio space, and, now introducing mexican food from Pueblo Viejo! In house catering is also now available for private events as well as wine and specialty cocktail pairings to fit any theme. We also cater alcohol services off-site (book us for your event somewhere else too)! Progressive theater, indie screenings, crazy dance parties, burlesque shows, the brightest new stars in independent music, all of it has a home at The North Door. Come in, the door is open.
