❤️ A Message from Manuel’s Tavern, the Maloof Family, and Our Entire Staff
It is with heavy hearts that we share some difficult news about a very dear friend and beloved member of the Manuel’s Tavern family, Angelo Fuster.
With the permission of Angelo’s family, granted today, we are sharing that Angelo was transferred to hospice care yesterday following a long and difficult battle with declining health.
Over the past several months, Angelo has faced tremendous medical challenges, including a severe cardiac event that significantly weakened his heart. Combined with his ongoing struggles with dementia and declining health, his condition has reached a point where his medical team has determined that hospice care is the most compassionate course forward.
For those who know Manuel’s Tavern, you know that Angelo is far more than a familiar face sitting at the bar. He is part of the very fabric of this institution.
Angelo was a cherished friend of our founder, Manuel Maloof, and their friendship was one of those special relationships that helped make this tavern more than just a place to eat and drink. It made it a family.
Through the years, Angelo has been a loyal friend, a familiar presence, a storyteller, and someone whose love for Manuel’s Tavern never wavered.
And when our tavern faced one of its darkest moments during the COVID-19 pandemic, Angelo stepped forward to help.
As many of you will remember, when the pandemic threatened the survival of this historic Atlanta institution, Angelo became the public face and the driving force behind the GoFundMe effort that helped save Manuel’s Tavern.
When Manuel’s Tavern needed a friend, Angelo was there.
His willingness to stand up for this place, lend his voice, and rally a community around something he loved will forever be part of our history. We will never forget what he did for us.
But Angelo’s importance to our family cannot be measured in dollars raised or years spent at the tavern. It is measured in friendship, loyalty, laughter, memories, and the countless ways he touched the lives of those around him.
For the Maloof family, Angelo has always been family. For our staff, he has been a treasured friend. And for generations of patrons, he has been one of the unforgettable personalities who made Manuel’s Tavern what it is today.
Our hearts are with Angelo and his loved ones as they navigate this incredibly difficult chapter.
We ask our friends, patrons, and the greater Atlanta community to keep Angelo and his family in your thoughts and prayers. We also ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy during this time.
And if you have a favorite memory, photograph, or story about Angelo, we would love for you to share it in the comments. Let us remind him and his family just how many lives he has touched and how deeply he is loved.
Angelo, you were there for Manuel’s Tavern when we needed you most. Please know that you are surrounded by that same love today.
With love, gratitude, and heavy hearts,
The Maloof Family
