Let’s be real. Dry January is a bit unreasonable. DAMP January, however? That’s way more our speed. Because let’s face it: a cold winter month without a single cocktail is just downright dreary..
So here’s a low-ABV seasonal tipple for when you want something special but not a full-fledged cocktail.
Sake isn’t often thought of for cocktails, but we created this recipe for a sake tasting we hosted at — and it was an instant hit.
Swing by your local Asian market, (shoutout and ) and grab a bottle of sake and a few seasonal ingredients, and you’re ready to whip up an exotic riff on a classic Cobbler. (You can also swap in Amontillado sherry for a more traditional cobbler moment 💯)

SAKE COBBLER
3 oz Ginjo Sake
1 oz Fresh-squeezed Mandarin
3/4 oz Persimmon Syrup*
1/2 oz Fresh-squeezed Lemon
Garnish: Powdered sugar, fresh mint & apple fan
DIRECTIONS:
Fill your cup with crushed ice (you can swing by and grab a bag from if you’re super committed). Add sake, mandarin, persimmon syrup and lemon. Top with more crushed ice. Garnish with mint, apple slices and a dusting of powdered sugar.
*PERSIMMON SYRUP:
Add 1 cup white sugar, 1 cup filtered water and 2 ripe, diced persimmons to a pot. Bring to a low boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Turn off heat, cover and steep for 3 hours. Pulse in a blender to extract more flavor, strain and store in airtight container. Keeps 2–3 weeks refrigerated.
