Friends and Fellow Winosaurs,
65 million years ago, nature concluded its chapter on dinosaurs, bringing an end to a dramatic and awe-inspiring time in prehistory. Similarly, Anita and I have come to the difficult decision that it is time for us to move on to the next chapter of our lives. We are proud to have been one of the businesses at the forefront of the Downtown Atascadero Renaissance, but have made the difficult decision to allow our peers to carry on and help develop our city into the wonderful and dynamic destination that we know it can be.
Over the last four years, we have been honored and happy to have met, hosted, and served you in our tiny wine bar. We have shared laughter, tears, hugs, and copious amounts of alcohol. You have been with us and supported us through literal near-death health scares, the birth of our second child, and the onset of a pandemic. Without you, Fossil could not have blossomed into the amazing place that it became.
Ever since we opened four years ago, it has been our greatest source of pride to be a champion and advocate for some of the most obscure boutique and garagiste producers of wine, beer, cider, and mead from across the Central Coast. We encourage you to keep the spirit of Fossil alive by seeking out and supporting the proverbial little guys, who may not have the most exposure but who put every ounce of effort into each bottle they produce.
We will be closed this weekend, November 3-5, so we can attend a wedding. We will not reopen, with the exception of our “End of the Cretaceous Period” going away party, which will take place on Saturday, November 12, from 7pm till closing. Any remaining inventory we have will be available for purchase at that celebration, and if you so choose, we also invite you to bring a bottle of wine/beer/cider etc. and a story or memory to share. Regardless, we would love to enjoy one final night together where we can toast to what has unequivocally been the greatest experience that our family could have asked for.
