To our customers, neighbors and friends,
When we took over ownership of Dark City Brewing Company at the beginning of 2019, we had incredibly high hopes. However; that year proved to be gratifying and also challenging for us as a company and most importantly, as a family. We worked strenuously to redefine the brand, our culture and the beer.
Entering 2020, we were navigating the delicate balance of running our business and raising our daughter. When we closed in March 2020 due to Covid-19, we had strong intentions of reopening. As time wore on, and we re-examined our priorities and shifting mindsets regarding our business and our family, the possibility of re-opening seemed to fade. We felt strongly indebted to our customers, whose frequent check-ins on social media did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Truth be told; we didn’t know how to respond or how to proceed. The path forward was uncertain.
When we welcomed our son last May, it became clear that re-opening Dark City was no longer in line with our personal goals.
We are absolutely thrilled for our good friends at in their new ownership of the space. After learning of their vision for , we are eager to see their work come to fruition; continuing the the tradition of carefully crafted beers at the corner of Second and Main. Craft beer in New Jersey is a small community and having known Nick, Bert and Dani for many years, handing them the keys felt “right”. We trust they will be a wonderful addition to the neighborhood and to the City of Asbury Park.
Dark City Brewing Company, established in 2016, will always be Asbury Park’s first craft brewery and one we are proud to have played a part in. To our longtime customers and tasting room staff - thank you for all your support over the years. It’s been fun drinking with all of you.
Cheers.
