The History of The Barn
Arthur’s Barn started in May of 1952 when Herb Johnson held the first of many barn dances to come in his hayloft. Nearly 800 people attended the first dance and admission was $.98. So began the tradition of the Friday night dances at Herb Johnson’s Barn or simply “The Barn.”
In the late 1980s, Herb passed the running of the dances onto one of his son Brian and his wife Becky. When the Johnson’s were looking to sell the beloved property, they found the perfect owners in Julie & Delon Cahoon. The Cahoon’s purchased the farm in April 2015 and kept the tradition of those Friday night dances alive.
Disaster struck on October 26, 2017, when a light pole near the barn caught fire. Even in the face of a total loss, Julie & Delon decided to rebuild the barn. With the Arthur’s Barn community supporting them, they held their first dance in nearly two years on September 13, 2019.
