Simon reading from his new novel 📖The Dolphin Ambassador’s Daughter (a 🏆PEN/America Literary Award finalist), featuring performances by and with ❄️WINTER BAND (🌲NorCal supergroup of rotating members) and ⭐️SERAFIMA (Seattle, “electrifying classic elements of The Golden Age of Radio, h***y tonk, and Russian folk”)❗️

“After a catastrophic oil spill, the Whales respond with war...” Richard B. Simon’s debut novel is a green fable in the vein of Watership Down, Animal Farm, The Lord of the Rings, and The Odyssey, and is inspired by language-rich fiction from the likes of Chinua Achebe, Louise Erdrich, and Toni Morrison. The epic story of an Orca who wants to start a war against the Humans, and a Dolphin who is determined to prevent one. The novel deals with the pursuit of political change through violent or nonviolent means; with prejudice, genocide, and the intergenerational trauma inflicted by industrial human civilization on all life.

A very special event here: We are doing a one-time screening of award-winning filmmaker Joris Postema’s documentary film The System and a listening party for Lee Ranaldo’s original soundtrack, in Arcata California at the The Miniplex at Richards’ Goat / Richards' Goat Tavern September 22nd.

Drinks will flow, cinema will flicker, plus a chance to pick up the vinyl a week before release —including handmade editions signed by Lee Ranaldo! 🫟✍️

🚨Tuesday, September 1st‼️ ❄️SOFT AS SNOW is the Berlin-based, Norwegian duo of Oda Starheim and Øystein Monsen. With rough sampling, slippery rhythms and noisy textures, their raw electronic productions are accompanied by Oda’s shapeshifting voice, creating a warped-yet-warm physicality. Their latest album was released on Beacon Sound and features London MC Brother May (CURL). Their music has been variously compared to Fever Ray, Throbbing Gristle, and Cabaret Voltaire.

📽️DPSD is the audiovisual project of director ⭐️Danny Perez, using his filmmaking background (🎞️ODDSAC, 🎞️ANTIBIRTH) to create wild video projections that interact with beat-driven electronic music infused with broken guitar melodies. Touring for years with 🎲BLACK DICE and 🐼PANDA BEAR, creating their concert visuals, has informed Perez’s own music. Live performances feature Perez’s signature visuals set to an ominous but playful take on power electronics and psych-rock.

Black Emperor + Daniel Higgs” -Slug Mag 🔥PLANKTON WAT is the psych-folk and cosmic-rock solo project of Portland-based multi-instrumentalist and guitarist Dewey Mahood, who also handles bass in the 🌹ROSE CITY BAND rhythm section. Emerging from the Pacific Northwest’s experimental music underground, the project is highly recognized for its expansive, expressionist guitar arrangements that blend acoustic folk, heavy psychedelia, and ambient krautrock.💥

🌵WESTERN EXTRA is an indie rock band from Humboldt whose sound blends psychedelia, folk, and New Wave. Initially formed as a songwriting duo of Donovan Quinn (⭐️Skygreen Leopards, ⭐️New Bums) and Chris Rose (⭐️Vampire Hands), the project expanded into a full band lineup rooted in the West Coast independent music community.

🪩🎹 THIS FRIDAY, DJ PerilNormal👽 will be playing danceable 💥No Wave, 💥New Wave, and things in-between - plus some newer music inspired by these genres - starting at 9 pm.🕰️ Think bands like ⭐️Blondie, ⭐️New Order, ⭐️The Slits, ⭐️Gang of Four, ⭐️Au Pairs, ⭐️The Human League, ⭐️ESG. Both genres have roots in the late-70s - New Wave in the U.K. with a “more buoyant, quirky, and artsy sound... with inspiration from the power-pop genre from the 60s” (Rough Trade), and No Wave in the gritty New York City scene, an avant-garde reaction against “all that three-chord rock whose attitudes may have been Punk, but whose musical roots came from Chuck Berry riffs of the 50s” (Robin Crutchfield).📌
