Today we commemorate the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. We honor the bravery and sacrifice of the Allied troops on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, a day that forever changed the course of history. May we never forget their courage and heroism.

Are you an informed veterans’ advocate?

Simple steps you can take to understand legislative issues and make a difference on Capitol Hill include:
• Signing up for VFW Action Corps Weekly and answering the call to take action when the VFW sends out alerts.
• Reading and understanding the VFW Priority Goals.
• Contacting your legislators about issues impacting veterans and their families.
• Voting in every local, state and national election you are able.

Take these steps and learn more on our website.

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 55 million people are living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia worldwide. In an effort to raise awareness about these potentially fatal brain disorders, which primarily affect memory, speech, reasoning abilities and the nervous system, the Alzheimer’s Association encourages everyone to wear purple this month.

Also, don’t forget that veterans and their family members, friends and caretakers who are experiencing the difficulties of dementia may need extra support at this time, too. You can help by offering to prepare meals, lending an ear or, if it’s safe to do so, visiting with a person who has Alzheimer’s or dementia to keep them company while giving their family or caregiver a break.
