Beer Can Island Unveils Jaw-Dropping Plans for "Jewel of the Bay" Ferris Wheel!
TAMPA BAY, FL – March 31st, 2025 – Pine Key better known as Beer Can Island, the beloved boater’s paradise in Tampa Bay, is making waves with an audacious new plan that has locals both scratching their heads and raising their beer cans in celebration.
After the devastating loss of the island’s iconic giant inflatable slide during last year’s hurricane season, the owners of Pine Key have announced a replacement that’s nothing short of spectacular: the world’s largest Ferris wheel, dubbed the "Jewel of the Bay," standing at a staggering 830 feet tall.
“We wanted to go big—literally,” said Cole Weaver, one of the island’s owners, while sipping a cold one at the newly added tiki bar on the island’s western shore. “The slide was fun, but the Jewel of the Bay will put Beer Can Island on the map as a global destination. At 830 feet, it’ll dwarf the current record holder, the Ain Dubai at 820 feet, and give boaters a view from Tampa to Timbuktu!”
The Ferris wheel isn’t the only upgrade. The island now boasts a second tiki bar, complete with a thatched roof and a menu of tropical cocktails, as well as a shiny new helicopter landing pad marked with a bold “H” for high-flying visitors. “We’re expecting a lot of jet-setters,” Cole added with a wink. “This pad will make it easy for them to drop in for a quick spin on the Jewel.”
But the real kicker? The owners plan to tow Beer Can Island to a new location—starting with a 2-mile move to Pinellas County later this year. Over the next decade, the island will be relocated 1 to 2 miles annually, with the ultimate goal of reaching international waters. “We’re tired of the government’s ridiculous zoning and land use regulations,” Russell Loomis explained. “By 2035, we’ll be in international waters, free to party as we please—no permits, no rules, just pure Beer Can Island vibes.”
The announcement has sparked a mix of excitement and skepticism among locals. “An 830-foot Ferris wheel on a 9-acre island that’s already eroding? And towing it to international waters?” laughed Lila, a Tampa-based photographer who visited the island recently. “I’ll believe it when I see it—probably on April 2nd.”
Construction on the Jewel of the Bay is set to begin next month, with the owners promising a grand opening party featuring live music, free beer, and a helicopter parade. For now, boaters are encouraged to visit the island in its current spot, enjoy the new tiki bar, and dream of a future where Beer Can Island becomes the world’s first floating, Ferris wheel-topped party haven in international waters. Happy April Fools, Tampa Bay!
