Looking to elevate your cocktails this holiday season? Riffing on the classics by swapping a simple syrup for an infused syrup (think cinnamon, all spice, cardamom, rosemary, cranberry, orange, or all the above) can bring a festive touch to a familiar classic and elevate the other flavors in the drink.
Tonight we swapped a simple syrup in a daiquiri for a spiced cranberry syrup made with cranberry juice, cranberry sauce, brown sugar, all spice, cinnamon, and orange. Most festive indeed.
Cheers to the holiday season!

Based on its color, you wouldn’t guess green chartreuse is one of the major flavors in this drink. The Bijou cocktail dates back to the 1890’s, invented by Harry Johnson, who is considered the father of professional bartending. He called it “bijou”because it combined the colors of three jewels: gin for diamond, vermouth for ruby, and chartreuse for emerald.
bijou
1.5 oz gin
0.75 oz green chartreuse
1 oz sweet vermouth
2 dash orange bitters
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir. Serve in a chilled martini or coupe glass.

We both fell in love with the craft cocktail scene while living in Adelaide, South Australia: the hole-in-the-wall bars, the emphasis on local ingredients, and the whole experience around a beautifully-crafted drink. Since moving back to Northeast Michigan, many a time we have found our own cocktail hours spent with family and friends going well into the night, exploring new recipes, inspiring good conversation, connecting us with new friends, bringing us together.
We hope we can share that with you too. Whether bartending your next event, inspiring your next happy hour drink, or recommending a good gin, we hope to share our love of cocktails with you.
