History of Kuhnsville, PA-

Founding and Name: Kuhnsville is a small, unincorporated village located in Upper Macungie Township within Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.

The village developed during the 1800s and was named after the Kuhns family, who were prominent early settlers, landowners, and business operators in this portion of the Lehigh Valley.

A Transportation Hub: -

Since its early days, Kuhnsville served as a vital crossroads and rest stop for travelers. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it sat along major stagecoach routes connecting Allentown to points west. That legacy continues today, as it marks the western terminus of the Lehigh Valley Thruway (U.S. Route 22) near Interstate 78.

History of the Kuhnsville Hotel-

The original footprint of the inn dates back to the mid-19th century, built primarily to accommodate travelers, stagecoach drivers, and teamsters moving goods across Pennsylvania. While early records attribute property development to the foundational Kuhns family (most notably connected to local figures like John Kuhns), the site evolved through various iterations of local innkeepers.

The Structure:

The architecture showcases a classic 19th-century Pennsylvania tavern/hotel design, featuring thick stone/stucco styling, multiple chimneys, a wide covered front porch, and separate entry doors typical of old boarding houses and saloons.

Later Eras:

By the mid-20th century, the hotel adapted to modern highway travel under operators like Fred Peters, who added modern tourist cabins and showers behind the property to capture motorists driving along Route 22.

Present Day:

Today, the building no longer rents rooms but operates locally as a popular neighborhood Kuhnsville Hotel Bar & Restaurant, maintaining its historic tavern aesthetic.
