After receiving guidance in regards to the State of Michigan and the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC), we have been informed that “Music Bingo” events are considered a form of gambling — even when there is no cost to participate. The state has recently begun increasing enforcement regarding these events at bars and restaurants across Michigan.

While games may still be played strictly for entertainment purposes, prizes and gift certificates, drink tokens, cannot legally be awarded to winners under current MLCC interpretation. Because of this, we can play bingo just no one wins a prize. I am looking into starting Bingo/trivia night and Trivia is able to win prizes because it is a game of skill not chance.

We know many of you have enjoyed Music Bingo nights as much as we have, and this is disappointing for us as well. However, it is extremely important that we follow all MLCC regulations in order to protect our liquor license.

I will post next Wednesday what the plan is I’m currently working on some music trivia.
