Let us cook for you this Friday night as you make final preparations for Christmas. We are serving chicken wings and shrimp (spiced or fried) with coleslaw and corn from 5:30-7:30. Prices range from $12-$15 depending on your order. The Ladies Auxiliary will be selling desserts. And please lend a hand in setting up or serving diners. The Aerie will be closed on Monday, December 25, so the bartenders may spend Christmas with their families and friends.

The Rathskeller is getting into the Holiday Spirit! Join us this Friday night after steak dinner for Christmas Vinyl night! We will play all your favorite songs and play all the reindeer games. Bring a wrapped present that is $20 or less for a white elephant exchange. We will also have a prize for the best ugly sweater! And celebrate with a sparkling glass of the Rathskeller’s signature drink for evening: the Poinsetta! Santa is watching and he wants to see you there! We had a great time last weekend celebrating our brother, Rock Ruark, on his election to Grand Aerie Outside Guard. Way to go, Rock!

This Friday at 5:00 is the deadline for donating a new, unwrapped toy to the Toys 4 Tots collection box in the Rathskeller.. Thank you to all the generous members who have already contributed.

Also, there will be no Friday night dinner this week, but steak night returns on Friday, December 15. Then it's time for the Christmas party on Saturday, December 16. Come enjoy a whole barbecued pig with sides at 5:30 and stay for live music by Barco Beat.

NOTICE! Our location for the Christmas Parade has changed. We are on Pitt Street between Gibbon and Wilkes Streets near the Lyles Crouch School. Also, our eagle float flew away so just look for a black Suburban SUV.

Saturday is a big day at ALVA Aerie 871!

Start your morning with your fellow Eagles as we march in the Scottish Walk Christmas Parade. Look for the big eagle float at Pitt Street between Wolfe & Wilkes between 9:30-10:30 a.m. Come to the Rathskeller afterwards to warm up with libations and football games.

Stay for the afternoon or come back at 5:00 for a reception honoring Grand Aerie Outside Guard Rock Ruark. Rock is the first member of FOE 871 to be elected to national office. He has held several offices at 871 and the state level, including Virginia Worthy State President. We will celebrate his accomplishments with heavy hors d'oeuvres and a hosted bar compliments of Grover Gaming from 5:00-7:00.

We are marching again in the Scottish Walk/Christmas Parade Saturday, December 2, that starts at 11:00. Start gathering between 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Pitt St between Wolfe & Wilkes. Scottish and/or festive holiday attire is highly encouraged, and we will have candy to hand out.

Later Saturday afternoon we are honoring our Brother Rock Ruark with a reception from 5:00-7:00. Rock was elected to serve as Grand Aerie Outside Guard for the fraternal year 2023-2024. He is the first member of ALVA Aerie 871 to hold a national office. Come to the Rathskeller to congratulate Rock and enjoy appetizers and a hosted bar.

Finally, we will not have our Bloody Mary breakfast on Sunday, December 3, due to lack of cooks. If you are interested in learning more about cooking for Bloody Mary breakfast, please send a message to [email protected].

Yesterday we had a nice turnout for Thanksgiving. We had a special bartender, and members brought in “Thanksgiving leftovers” and desserts. Thank you!
