The wines have been selected and here is a preview...
The Judgement of Paris Wine Dinner happening at the Meyer house this Friday and Saturday will taste wines from France right next to the same style of wines from California and Oregon! This wine dinner will also feature traditional French Foods with an American twist.
The wines will be tasted in four categories, Champagne(sparkling), White Burgundy(Chardonnay), Red Burgundy(Pinot Noir) and Bordeaux(Red Blend). Here is a sneak peek at two of the categories:

Red Burgundy
Domaine Chanson Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses Premier Cru 2022 - "A beam of pure cherry permeates this sleek, elegant red. Starts out supple, with a line of finely wrought tannins underneath" and rated 93 points by Wine Spectator
vs
Erath 2018 Knight's Gambit Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, OR - "Alluringly dark and dense with aromas of black plum, grilled meat, Mission fig and baking spice" and given 91 Points from Wine Spectator.

Bordeaux
Chateau Tournefeuille Lalande-de-Pomerol 202, Bordeaux, France -"rich, with plenty of firm tannins that are integrated into the rich black fruits. Cellar Selection" - 92 Points from Wine Enthusiast

Rodney Strong Symmetry Meritage 2019 Bordeaux Red Blends,Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California - "Their ultimate Bordeaux-style blend featuring all five varieties. The 2019 is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), which gives it bold aromas of black licorice, anise, and currants. Decanter magazine gives it a 95 point score.

It was 50 years ago that the world of wine was forever changed...

Up until this time, California Winemakers were still struggling to overcome the effects of prohibition. There were plenty of grapes in the California Valleys for wine, but for many, the focus was on getting jugs of relatively inexpensive wines out to the consumers. In the 60’s and early 70’s there were a handful of wine makers who recognized the Napa and Sonoma Valleys as growing regions that rival many European wine regions.

Steven Spurrier was a British born wine merchant, educator and author that was considered a champion of French Wines. In order to “stir the pot” a little in the wine world, Spurrier arranged a blind tasting of French Wine and California Wines. Spurrier hand picked the best of the California Wines to match against the best of what was being produced by France.

On a sunny May day in 1976, the California wines won in both the White Wine and Red Wine Categories! This day went down in wine history as The Judgement of Paris. The immediate impact was on the recognition of California Wine, however the larger conclusion was that Europe was no longer viewed as the only place great wine could be grown and made.

Today, outstanding wines are grown around the world. Wine Crush invites you to attend The Judgement of Paris Part Three(part one is Greek Mythology, Part Two is the above story). Our Part Three event will showcases great French and American Food that is paired with both the French and American version of the same wines. Cost is $65 per person( includes your meal and beverages) and is being held at the Meyer House in Downtown Albany. I hope you can join us!
