Poland has a cathedral 100 meters underground.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine near Kraków has been operating continuously since the 13th century — over 700 years without stopping. Miners carved 287 kilometers of tunnels, chambers, and chapels entirely by hand, deep beneath the earth.

The centerpiece is the Chapel of St. Kinga — a full cathedral underground, with chandeliers made from salt crystals, bas-relief sculptures carved into the salt walls, and a floor that has been walked on for centuries.

Everything you see — the chandeliers, the altars, the sculptures — is made entirely from salt.

In 1978, UNESCO added it to its very first World Heritage List, alongside the historic center of Kraków.

Over 1.5 million people visit every year. Most of them say it's unlike anything they've ever seen. 🇵🇱
