The Downtown Event Center Located inside the Ward Plaza is the place to be. The facility houses the Ward Pub, Crystal Ballroom, Tuscany Room and most recently has added Roma Italian Restaurant, Karisma, a women's boutique along with a film studio. We also feature seven hotel rooms and fifteen Condominiums. The original 1894 Ward Hotel burned to the ground in 1926 and in 1928 Alonzo R. Some 76 years later; in 2004 Blackstone Developers LLC restored the facility as a part of the Blackstone's downtown restoration project. Ninety of the original hotel rooms were converted into fifteen luxury condominiums on floors 3-6. The remaining 7 hotel rooms on the second floor were enlarged, restored and decorated by a team of nationally award winning architects. The original restaurant, coffee shop, lobby and commercial spaces were all restored as well. On the second floor, the Ward Plaza's Crystal Ballroom with the original Crystal Chandeliers was fully restored. The Crystal Ballroom also boasts the only wooden dance floor in town. One of the major draws of business to The Ward Plaza and Downtown Event Center are the wedding ceremonies, receptions, and all kinds of special occasions.
