My family had the wedding reception for our daughter at the Ward on June 8, 2013. She'd attended a wedding there while still in high school, and had dreamed of having her reception there since that day.
We had several meetings with Melissa prior to the wedding. There was some disruption our expectation midway through the planning, when the Ward divested itself of the restaurant portion of the organization and we then had to make alternate catering plans. That also caused some concern about the overall pricing for the venue, and everything else that entailed.
However, Melissa worked extensively with us to accommodate our wishes, our budget, and her bottom line.
The day of the wedding could not have been more perfect. Not only did the banquet and ballroom look magical, everything we had hoped for had come to pass.
With the aid of the decorator Melissa recommended, my daughter said that she had not only gotten the wedding of her dreams, but there were aspects she hadn't even known she wanted that facilitated the illusion of perfection. Virtually all of our guests were from out of town, the bulk of them from the East Coast who regularly experience the finest venues available. They raved about everything about the Ward, from it's beauty, it's history, and it's service.
I cannot say enough about the service we received. Melissa and her staff...which consisted of her son and her husband...worked tirelessly throughout the evening, unobtrusively, but omnipresent, making sure all was running smoothly. They even collected all the wedding gifts and moved them to the room downstairs they reserved for us to use the next morning to meet and open them.
Their service and help made the entire event a joy. A wedding is usually a wonderful time, but I have been to many that have been marred by stress or frustration because of some minor glitch. We have discussed this many times, with many of our friends and relatives, since the wedding, and universally everyone has had a glow about how great it was. I have had many comments about how my daughter, the bride, and I, the bride's mother, seemed so calm and stress-free throughout the whole weekend. There is a simple answer: because of the work and professionalism of the Ward, the bride and I were allowed to be guests at her own wedding.
