Football mad

A slow paced day today with a spot of ironing and Dad had a good clean up in the kitchen. After lunch we all had a nap for almost an hour and I felt a bit groggy. I have checked on the sinkhole situation and found that it was near Purley bridge but apparently has been sorted now, thank goodness. Also the flight that went missing had 2 passengers on board so was most likely a private plane but it is still missing.
I did have a message from Amy which showed that the new airport has been fully certified for operations and the documents have been received. No date for actually opening though.
I went up to Honey and Geoffs for dinner this evening and I arrived at 3pm to have a chat with Geoff and start prepping tea. I made saltfish and rice which I think they enjoyed although the pepper sauce was maybe a bit hot for Amy. Her brother Dean is away on holiday in Halkidiki and we heard from them yesterday as they are now engaged, wonderful news.
The Spain v Cape Verde game was brilliant and the same for the Belgium v Egypt. I love it when the score is not as expected. Some very good football. Getting a bit nervous for Wednesday now.👀

Footy, tennis and roast beef

We had a builders breakfast, that is what Dad called it. Bacon, egg and beans very nice. We had a few jobs to do and we worked through them nicely. We cooked roast beef and it was lovely and we finished in time for germany v curacao. I thought Curacao did well and their goal was superb but Germany got into their stride in the end.
We watched the Queens tennis final and you can see Dad peering in from the front garden not wanting to miss it.
There is a photo of Mum doing a spot of gardening from last week. The other photo is of Newmarket Tescos just because.
News from Tobago is that a flight that took off from St.Vincent has gone missing. I was not sure if it was a fake report at first but cnc3 reported it too. Also Steve and Rita whatsapped me about all trains to Gatwick being suspended due to sinkholes. I have no idea how long it takes to fill those but it will add to traffic.
Now watching nethetlands v japan having played jamaican whuch amum won with 25 points. Weather was a bit warmer today.

Burgers and cocktails

We were late up today, well I was at least. Then a shop at Waitrose, it is always so cold in there. It was sunny and cloudy with a fair amount of wind so not as hot as they had predicted.
The Exning Road Working Mens Club had a barbeque this afternoon and we went as well as Honey, Geoff and Amy and my sister Alison is the Secretary there. The burgers and hotdogs were very good and they had to go and buy more as there were a lot of people. The cocktails were very good and Mum and I had some pina coladas and I also had a cherry bakewell which is my new favourite and will be added to the Boathouse menu when we open again. A possible name for it may very well be Cherry Calypso, suggested by Jenny.
We spent the rest of the evening watching Switzerland play Qatar and the Qatar goal was a thing of beauty.
We also watched the fly over for the kings birthday and the last time the red arrows will be nine in number.

Bye bye Queenie and hello Cambridge

Kippers for breakfast and then we set off to return my car rental. She was a lovely drive and I really enjoyed having her. She prwtty did everything for .e, turning on the lights, the wipers, the handbrake, suggesting when to change gear and the orange triangle in the wing mirror when a car was going to pass me. All they need to do now is add in making. Cup of tea and she would be perfect.
Afyer that and a great deal of discussion Dad drove to the Garden House Hotel and we managed to get parked with Mums blue badge for 3 hours completely free. A shortish walk past the punts to Silver Street and the mathematical bridge. All wood and no nails at all.
We saw a hop on hop off sightseeing bus so I beetled after it and Mum and Dad came as fast as they could. The driver waited for us and we went on top in the open. It was. Acomprehensive tour of the colleges and the american cenetery and we saw the round church built in 1130, Churchill, Trinity Newnham, St.Johns, Peterhouse and many more colleges as well as a building that had a roof made of teflon sheeting and built so that if an experiment went wrong and there was a blast the roof would just lift off.
Thirty one colleges in Cambridge in all and most built in 14 something. The different architecture woven with the modern buildings is a sight to see and we thoroughly enjoyed the commentary which had good volume.
We got off where we boarded and staggered into The Mill right next to the millpond in the river Cam which gives Cambridge its name. Our drinks disappeared fast and we set off for Newmarket and lunch at Wetherspoons in the Golden Lion. They had free wifi so we ordered with the qr code, a first for me and it was good grub.
Back home we all fell asleep and then went to bingo. Finally after three years I had a win but I had to share it so I received a fiver. So I broke even on the night. Whta a brilliant day!

New toes and shopping

The weather forecast was spot on today, rain all day and it did. I had a lovely pedicure and bought some sandals at Clarks with a stop at Tescos for supplies.
I went to pick Honey up after school and she had been on a school trip to Mountfitchet Castle. The bus broke down but they were not really late back. We went to Bury and Primark before eating at Mowglis indian restaurant. We had a sharing platter which started off with chat bombs and they were delicious, then fenugreek potatoes and a selection of curries and dahl. Very nice and we had a good time as well as a sassy cider.
Now watching Mexico defeat Republic of South Africa.
I did watch all of the england match last night and although the scoreline should have been higher I feel we have a lot of depth in the squad and they have real potential.
Two red cards now blimey!
I forgot to say that the two sunsets were sent to me by Ally somewhere in Stoke Ferry. Taken yesterday.

The Golden Boar

We had a lovely morning with a spot of pruning in the garden and watching the many showers of rain. Black clouds were everywhere. Dad helped me buy a push button tap for the restaurant toilet so we will no longer have flooding when the tap is left on and our water will not be lost.
Ali came up for a cuppa then Dean and Antonia who are off on holiday. Finally Honey popped in for a coffee and we dolled ourselves up for dinner at the Golden Boar in Freckenham. Aunty Hazel and Ed came too and we had a lovely time. Dad and I ordered lamb shank but they only had one lamb shank and offered us to change one order and have something else half price. So I had the sirloin instead and it was all delicious. The halloumi was so good I had it for dessert as well. We reached home in time for kick off England v Costa Rica and it was delayed by an hour.
Amy sent me a link to facebook regarding the roads in Castara which have been 'done'. I will try to add the photos to my gallery and add them tomorrow but it looked good. The photos are of the Golden Boar plus an elephant on the roof of the house opposite and Mum with her sister Hazel.
I did put 3-1 as yhe score for the lionesses but I meant 3-0, sorry.

Messing about at home

We had sunny weather but windy and at teatime a thunderstorm with hail and a downpour. I did some ironing which I quite like and my new pashmina(£3) washed up beautifully.
Mum and Dad cooked roast pork and it was delicious. Amy came up to visit this evening and she is working hard. I spent part of the afternoon doing the wedding puzzle. Taken at Amy's wedding on Little Bay,Castara and turned into a puzzle. The sand and trees were a little
hard and I have not the foggiest as to why it is upside down. I tried to change it but have got nowhere.
Just watched the last part of the lionesses game and they won 3-0, great. Lets hope the lads do the same🤪.

The Port of Britain

Mum wanted to go to the coast and today seemed like the best day for the weather. Dad said it was utter madness but we went anyway🤣😎🌴. It was overcast and rained a couple of times during breakfast. However we are British and were not deterred!
The A14 all the way was a lovely drive although it was heartbreaking counting the dead deer at the side of the road. We need a grassy bridge for them to cross over. Yesterday on the A11 we saw a couple of bat bridges which are supposed to help the bats across the road. We went through some patchy rain but as we neared Ipswich it was dry and a bit sunny. The car put the windscreen wipers and sidelights on without any input from me and I have noticed the triangle on the wing mirror that goes orange when a car comes to overtake me.
So Felixstowe is the biggest port in Britain and we saw a container ship being unloaded that had 20 containers across and was at least 10 deep. We had a cup of tea and then went off to have fish and chips, I just had fish, a lovely bit of battered cod.
We walked down the pedestran high street and then drove up by the ferry port. All in all a good day and I found a traditional sweet shop with the big jars. A very nice shopkeeper too. There was a big wheel by the sea too which would give you a great view if it wasn't raining😅.
Back home we had a couple of games of jamaican which Dad won, again. We had a tipple of Baileys and are hitting the hay very soon.
